AG: As a kid, I loved to watch superhero shows on TV. I loved watching heroes like Batman and Robin, Superman, Captain America, The Hulk, & Wonder Woman all fight evil villains.
What if they had hidden their powers and never helped? Dull show right? What would you say, if I told you that there is power available for you and I which we often ignore?
We have the power of God’s Spirit, but we often try to hide it.
We have been called to no walk in the Spirit, and no longer grieve the Spirit. When we ignore the promptings and gifts of the Spirit, we bring grief to God.
Today, we want to look at how to satisfy the Spirit as we look in Romans 8.
John MacArthur said, The Spirit, who was mentioned only once in chaps. 1–7 (cf. 1:4), is referred to nearly 20 times in chap. 8. He frees us from sin and death (vv. 2, 3); enables us to fulfill God’s law (v. 4); changes our nature and grants us strength for victory over our unredeemed flesh (vv. 5–13); confirms our adoption as God’s children (vv. 14–16); and guarantees our ultimate glory (vv. 17–30
Life in the Spirit is a journey, and while there are many great passages throughout Scripture that discuss the role and person of the Holy Spirit, is perhaps one of the most insightful. Here are 7 suggestions that will fuel a passion for the things of the Spirit and further educate how to live a life directed by him.

Here are suggestions that will fuel a passion for the things of the Spirit and further educate how to live a life directed by him.
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.
8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Walking by the Law was inadequate
it could not bring peace with God.
it remained external and could not change the heart.
Walking by the Spirit is another matter.
God’s Spirit transforms us.
He seals us in salvation and re-creates us.
When we walk in the Spirit, we satisfy Him.
We live a different life

17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
You and I face a daily struggle between the two.
Walk by the Spirit
There is no shortcut to learning how to walk with the Spirit. It's not just for ultra-spiritual people nor is it reserved for charismatic Christians. Life according to the Spirit is not simply trying to do the right thing, nor is it trying to live according to God's Law. Walking in the Spirit is the central metaphor for describing what it means to live as a Christian. The person who walks according to the Spirit will in fact have the essence of the Law fulfilled in his life.

Our mindset must be on things of the Spirit rather than things of God.

The question "how does one overcome the pull of the flesh?" sounds like an old riddle:
How can someone extract all of the air out of a drinking glass? The most direct way to get all the air out of a glass is by filling it with something else. You cannot extract thoughts that displease God from your mind. Like [the solution to the riddle], you need to be filled up with thoughts—indeed with an entire mindset—that is oriented toward the things of the Spirit (e.g. ).
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

The person who has been regenerated by the Spirit is not stuck in sin.
By the Spirit, the pull of the flesh can be resisted. To "put to death the deeds of the body" is pretty much the same thing as "saying no to sin," but unlike the anti-drug campaign among youth many years ago, just say no by itself will never be successful. Just saying no will never allow you to consistently overcome sin.

Our old self is no more—it has been crucified with Christ in order for the desires of our flesh to be brought to nothing, and the result is that we are no longer enslaved to sin but rather alive to God in Christ (, ).

Even still, we must fight the desires of the flesh. We can’t do this by tolerating sin, justifying sin, blame shifting sin, or managing sin.
We must put sin to death through repentance ().
5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

The Holy Spirit leads us broadly (always) and more specifically (sometimes).
He always leads us through his written Word, which was revealed to the prophets by the Holy Spirit ().
20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.
21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
We are to prayerfully, carefully, and humbly apply broad biblical wisdom to the situations we face in our lives.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us directly.
The Holy Spirit can choose to act in any way and according to any timetable that he wishes; we do not dictate to him how or when he will move.
Since the Bible gives many examples of him acting more specifically, we should anticipate that he will sometimes choose to lead us directly if we are open and available to his guidance.

BIG IDEA: Everyday we must choose to stop grieving the Spirit and to keep in step with the Holy Spirit and thus we will live a life which pleases God.
