RIDDLE: What is bad and yet not a sin?
Answer: TEMPTATION
In as much as death and taxes are certain in our lifetime, we should also add temptation as something that is certain. The bible repeatedly reminds us that temptation is a real constant danger for everyone. We sometimes joke about it but the Lord sees it as a threat to the believers’ spiritual well-being.
The Parable of the Soil
The Parable of the Soil
6 “Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
Luke
13 “Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.
6 “Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
Temptation is an example to what refer to as FIERY DARTS!
16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

With an estimated global worth of 3.7 trillion and double-digit annual growth across all wellness sectors since 2010, the wellness industry is “one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries” today.
With or without proper diet, millions hit the gym on a regular basis in order to stay healthy. But what about the spiritual life of these people that go to this gyms? If we are conscious about the food we put in our mouth then as believers we ought to be careful and extra cautions with what we put in our brains with what we watch, see, read, hear and listen to.
THE LORD’S PRAYER: “Do not lead us into temptation....”
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’
praying that the Lord will keep us away from the path of temptation
prayer acknowledges the power that HE can give us to ward off temptation
(START HERE ON JUL. 8)
THE PROBLEM OF TEMPTATION BRINGS UP THE NEED OF DISCIPLINED PRAYER LIFE.
An effective way to overcome temptation is to anticipate temptation.
How: CONSTANT PRAYER!
How often are you tempted?
With the frequency of temptation comes the need for frequent prayer. Prayer before temptation and not just during temptation. Daily ask the Lord that you may not succumb to temptation.
Prayer
41 “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
this prayer acknowledges to God that you are weak therefore you need Him (HUMILITY).
PRAYING IS WATCHING THAT YOU WILL NOT FALL INTO TEMPTATION.
Overcoming temptation is a step to righteous living to match our true identity in Jesus Christ.
God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
This righteousness that is BY FAITH
and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
The spirit that God gave us together with the mind of Christ that is in us is in constant opposition with “The Flesh.”
What are the sources of temptation?
What are the sources of temptation?
1. THE FLESH
1. THE FLESH
“A carnal value system, a force at work within us, influencing our desire, which we inherited from the original sin.
It is impossible for fallen man to please or serve God. The flesh expresses itself in general and specific rebellion against God and His righteousness. It cannot be reformed or improved but it can be replace by a new life in the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Temptation is a serious threat to our spiritual well-being therefore HE wants us to not respond to it. His desire is express in His intent to rescue us from temptation.
9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,
The Lord is willing to deliver us from temptation avoiding the consequences from it.
The deeds of the flesh will tell you why we ought to be rescued from it.
THE DEEDS OF THE FLESH / the FRUIT of the flesh. (not very fruity)
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians
The evidence of the flesh’s ruling the world today are demonstrated by some recent survey on the effect of pornography in America. According to the study, every second in the U.S.:
• $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography
• 28,258 Internet users are viewing pornography
• 372 Internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines
And every 39 minutes, a new pornographic video is being created in the United States. Such statistics underscore the statement made by the prophet Jeremiah who mourned that “the heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” ().

This frequency is another result of another product of the flesh and that is insatiable desire for material wealth.
1. The Flesh
Strategy:
Apply and impliment your understanding of the implications of your new found in Faith in Jesus Christ. New life is life with a new beginning.
11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
Decision: To CONSIDER is to accept what God says about us as true and to live in the light of it.
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 6
See yourself as God sees yourself.
How does a dead person respond to temptation?
A dead man has nothing to do with immorality, lying, cheating, gossiping, or any other sin.
A dead man has nothing to do with immorality, lying, cheating, gossiping, or any other sin.
MacDonald, W. (1995). Believer’s Bible Commentary: Old and New Testaments. (A. Farstad, Ed.) (p. 1702). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
How does a person save from eternal salvation, person given new life respond to the one who save or gave him/her new life?
THEREFORE: Decision
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
Believing your new position in Christ, you therefore NOT LET sin reign. Don’t let it control you… don’t let temptation tempt you.
5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
For temptation to give birth to sin it needs to the FLESH which gives the ability to lust.
Colossians 3
14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
LUST:
DEFINITION: Intense, unrestrained, overwhelming craving or desire
Lust has as its focus pleasing oneself, and it often leads to unwholesome actions to fulfill one's desires with no regard to the consequences. Lust is about possession and greed. The Christian faith is about selflessness and is marked by holy living
Lust has as its focus pleasing oneself, and it often leads to unwholesome actions to fulfill one's desires with no regard to the consequences.
(if lust has an identical twin, his name would be GREED)
GREED: insatiable, intense, excessive and selfish desire for something (lots of it), especially wealth, power, or food.
EXAMPLES:
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
lust of the flesh - sexual
Lust is about possession and greed. The Christian faith is about selflessness and is marked by holy living
lust of the eyes - sexual /material /greed
boastful pride of life - lust for power
The Christian faith is about selflessness and is marked by holy living
I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.
and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
The goal of each person who has put his/her faith in Jesus Christ is to become more and more like Him each day. This means putting off the old way of life of which sin was in control, and conforming one's thoughts and actions to the standard put forth in Scripture. Lust is in opposition to this ideal.

There has to be less and less of the world and more of the Word manifesting in you life.
(this brings us to the next source of the temptation: the WORLD)
2. The World
2. The World
Strategy:
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Today’s world is the playground of the devil.
Today’s world is the breeding ground for evil.
don’t let the world value system shape your thinking
don’t submit to the standards of the world standard
don’t listen to what the world has to offer but listen and yield to what the WORD has to offer.
a mind focus and submitted to God is one that will see the perfect plan of God.
GOAL OF THE DEVIL: To destroy God’s plan for you by distracting you from focusing on God.
FOCUS
The restaurant principle: ever been in crowded and noisy restaurant? Why is it that your able to listen to the person you are talking too despite the noise from the next table?
temptation is the precursor to sin
Sin is what the devil wants you to commit.
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
do not be overcome by temptation but overcome it with Good or GOD.
First: Studying God’s Word
Second: Obedience to God’s Word.
Third: Sharing of God’s Word - encouraging other Christian
Overcome the WORLD by building and surrounding yourself with a new WORLD - a community of believers.
That’s why it is important to belong to a home church - home not homes.
When members focus on their HOME church, the home church grows.
When Christians focus on the Word, they grow toward God.
When Christians focus on the World, they grow away from God.
ENCOURAGEMENT: God has given us the ability to overcome the world because:
4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
As a creator of the world - in our beginning
Insubordination to His holiness -nature
When we sin it is a form of Insubordination to God.
Insubordination to His authority - His rank/position
Insubordination to deity - His being
4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
Lawlessness is living in disregard to the intent and plan of God.
God is the creator of good reflected by what He said after the completion of what HE made.
God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.
Thus SIN’s intent is to CORRUPT the GOOD that God created. He started with MAN because amongst all His creation only man is created in His image.
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
That’s why he wants to bring man down to his future misery.
And where does MAN live today: THE WORLD
Open your TV today and the majority
So the devil wants man to rebel against God. To continue with this agenda he has showered this WORLD with His influence.
Sin is insubordination to God - it is placing one’s will above the will of God.
Insubordination to His holiness -nature
Insubordination to His authority - His rank/position
Insubordination to deity - His being
3. The Devil
3. The Devil
Strategy
Don’t give him room
In life, we look for good opportunities.
We don’t need to look for opportunities to sin, they come, it’s the devil’s weapon against us.
27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.
In life, we look for good opportunities.
We don’t need to look for opportunities to sin, they come, it’s the devil’s weapon against us.
7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Two stage approach
Submit to God- yield to the Lord, yield to the Holy Spirit
Give the Holy Spirit to work with - God’s Word
Resist the devil - you need to see it as what it is and resist.
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

Lessons Learned
Lessons Learned
13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
All men have been tempted. Even Jesus was tempted
15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
God will test your faith but He will never lead you to sin.
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
We need to learn in early
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
1. All will be tempted. Even Jesus was. Expect
it.
2. The best offense is the best defense: The
Word. Know it and a lot of it! Give time for it,
your “lifetime.”
3. Stay away by keeping the devil away. Fix your
thoughts on what is true, honorable, right,
pure, lovely, and admirable. ()
YOU SHOULD BE A PORTRAIT OF THE WORD AND NOT THE WORLD.
In our quest and pursuit of holy living you slowly eliminate THE “L-lust” from the WORLD and you will be left with the WORD.
WORLD - L = WORD
