Who Is Jesus?

John 1:19–23 KJV 1900
19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? 20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. 21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. 22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? 23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
John 1:19-23
John 8:25 KJV 1900
25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
John 10:22–24 KJV 1900
22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
John 10:22-24
John 10:25 KJV 1900
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
John 10
John 5:31–36 KJV 1900
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. 32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. 33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. 34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. 35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. 36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
John 8:25–30 KJV 1900
25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. 26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
John 10:37–38 KJV 1900
37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
John 10:
John 14:6–11 KJV 1900
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
John 16:28
John 16:28 KJV 1900
28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
Matthew 22:42
Matthew 22:42 KJV 1900
42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
Matthew 16:13 KJV 1900
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
Matthew 16:13
Matthew 16:14 KJV 1900
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
John 7:12
John 7:12 KJV 1900
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
John 7:43 KJV 1900
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
John
John 9:16–17 KJV 1900
16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. 17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
John 10:19–21 KJV 1900
19 There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. 20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? 21 Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
Some regarded Him as a deceiving, demon-possessed, sabbath-breaking sinner.
John 7:20 KJV 1900
20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
John 8:13 KJV 1900
13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
John 8:48 KJV 1900
48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
John 8:52 KJV 1900
52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
John 5:16–18 KJV 1900
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. 17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
John 7:1 KJV 1900
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
John 8:59 KJV 1900
59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
John 10
John 10:31 KJV 1900
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
John 10:33 KJV 1900
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
John 10:39 KJV 1900
39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
John 11:49–53 KJV 1900
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. 51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; 52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. 53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
John 19:7 KJV 1900
7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
On the other hand, some viewed Jesus as a good, miracle working man, who deserved a hearing.
John 12:42–43 KJV 1900
42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
John the Immerser
John 1:29 KJV 1900
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John 1:36 KJV 1900
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
John 1:34 KJV 1900
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Andrew
John 1:40–41 KJV 1900
40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
Philip
John 1:45 KJV 1900
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
Nathanael
John 1:49 KJV 1900
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
Simon Peter
John 6:66–68 KJV 1900
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
John 6:69 KJV 1900
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Martha
John 6:
John 11:27 KJV 1900
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
The Apostles
John 16:27 KJV 1900
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
John 16:
John 17:7–8 KJV 1900
7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
Jesus was not the only one to claim to be the Christ.
Matthew 24:4 KJV 1900
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Matthew 24:23–24 KJV 1900
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
John 6:27 KJV 1900
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Sealed=”to confirm, authenticate, place beyond doubt…to prove by one’s testimony to a person that he is what he professes to be.”

His Mission

Luke 19:10 KJV 1900
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
1 Timothy 1:15 KJV 1900
15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Matthew 20:28 KJV 1900
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Luke 4:18–21 KJV 1900
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
John 8:28 KJV 1900
28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
John 12:32 KJV 1900
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Matthew 11:5 KJV 1900
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Acts 10:38 KJV 1900
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Luke 9:58 KJV 1900
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Luke 9:58
1 John 4:14 KJV 1900
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

His Message

Matthew 7:28–29 KJV 1900
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Matthew
John 4:42 KJV 1900
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
John 7:14–15 KJV 1900
14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
Matthew
John 7:40–41 KJV 1900
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
John 7:45–46 KJV 1900
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? 46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
John 7:4
Socrates taught for 40 years. Plato taught for 50, Aristotle for 40, and Jesus for only three; yet those three years infinitely transcend in influence the combined one hundred and thirty years of teaching of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, three of the greatest men of all antiquity. Jesus painted no pictures; yet some of the finest paintings of Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci received their inspiration from Him. Jesus wrote no poetry; but Dante, Milton, and scores of the world’s greatest poets were inspired by Him.
His teachings will judge men on the last day.
John 12:48 KJV 1900
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Revelation 20:12 KJV 1900
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Matthew 17:5 KJV 1900
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Hebrews 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

His Matchless Life

John 8:46 KJV 1900
46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
John 18:29–30 KJV 1900
29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
John 18:31 KJV 1900
31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
John 18:38 KJV 1900
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
John 18:32 KJV 1900
32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
John 19:6 KJV 1900
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
John 18:33 KJV 1900
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
Mark 14:55–56 KJV 1900
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. 56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
John 18:
2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV 1900
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Hebrews 4:15 KJV 1900
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 7:26–27 KJV 1900
26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Hebrews 9:28 KJV 1900
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
1 John 3:5 KJV 1900
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Heb 9:
The Jews had their Moses, Rome had her Caesar, France had her Napoleon, England had her Gladstone, America had her Washington, but thanks be to God the church has Jesus Christ as the captain of our salvation. If it were possible for George Washington, the Father of our country, to walk into our midst we would rise to our feet; but if Jesus Christ the founder of the church should walk into our midst we would fall to our knees. If Jesus Christ is not the son of God, he is the greatest impostor the world has ever know. If Jesus Christ is only a man, he propagated the greatest fraud known to men. He claimed to be the son of God and all of his claims proved to be true.
On one occasion He stood in a little boat and preached to his disciples and that little boat has received more publicity and has been talked about more than any sea going vessel the world has ever been able to build, The Queen Elizabeth or the U. S. S. Enterprise or the Saratoga. Why? Because Jesus Christ stood in that little boat and that made the difference. When He made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem he rode upon a little donkey. That little donkey has been talked about more than the most beautiful Tennessee walking horse or the most graceful Kentucky racehorse or the most elegant stallion of Arabia. Why? Because Jesus Christ rode upon that little donkey.

2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
John 5:36 KJV 1900
