Introduction: The Pastor’s Purpose:

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

The Pastor is to equip the people so that they may do the work of the ministry and edify others.

I have 3 Characteristics for us to reach for.

1. Let Us Be a Biblically-Minded Church:

2 Timothy 3:16–17 KJV 1900

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

We say The Bible is sufficient, do we really believe that? Are we willing to let it guide us?

A pastor must lead the people according to The Bible if he wants them to be perfected for the work of the ministry.

Without God’s Word, our church will fail.

Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Not Anti-Cultural, but Counter-Cultural. We have a different culture to offer: one that follows God.

We are not of this world (), so let us set our minds on things above ().

The work of the ministry should offer an alternative to the things of this world and lead to a transformed life that looks different than the world. , .

There are many churches who claim to follow Jesus, but don’t. Let us look to His example in how we live and how we deal with others.

We must show grace and mercy to people as Jesus instructed: .

Jesus never compromised. We don’t have to either. We can share the truth in love as Paul instructed: .

Conclusion: We Need to be a Biblically-Minded, Counter-Cultural, Christ-Following Church that shows the love, grace, and mercy of Jesus without compromise.
