Theme: Remember the Lord’s salvation that you might walk in faith all your days. Introduction: The crossing of the Jordan River was a momentous event in the life of the nation Israel. It was the fulfillment of a 600 year-old promise; but more than that, it was a call to faith for the Israelites, as they prepared to occupy the land and to drive out their enemies. The Lord’s stopping of the waters was meant to stir faith in the hearts of his people for what lay before them. Message Info Title: Faithful to Fulfill Speaker: Steve Heitland We see this story unfold in 3 stages: 1. Preparation Though we know this story well, we must remember that for Israel these were unfolding events. Would God be faithful to his promises? Joshua called the Israelites to consecrate themselves—they needed to act in faith and to fear the Lord in order to inherit the promises. He also told them that the Lord would dry up the river for them to cross so that they would have faith to see him drive out their enemies before them. `t `\ Date: June 24, 2018 Scriptures: Joshua 3-4 2. Deliverance The Lord’s salvation is as sure as it is straight-forward. The priests enter, the waters are stopped and the people cross. The certainty of God’s deliverance should remind us of the certain promises we have received in Jesus. As the Israelites passed through the waters of the Jordan, we have passed through the waters of baptism and we are now heirs to the ultimate promised land of the new heavens and new earth. 3. Remembrance The Lord commands the Israelites to set up 12 stones beside the Jordan to serve as a memorial for future generations of his faithfulness to deliver them. His call is for generational transfer of the gospel. All of his people are to fix their hope on him alone, and they are teach their children to do the same. The Lord acts so that everyone will know he is mighty, and so his people will fear him and walk in faith before him. Questions: 1. Do you ever doubt the promises of God? How is he calling you to see him in the midst of your trials and suffering? 2. Are there any situations in your life that you view as hopeless? How can you walk through them with faith in the Lord? [Type here] 3. If you’re a parent, does your parenting communicate a call to your children to fear the Lord and walk in humble faith before him? Are you looking to the Lord to work in your children?
