Cultivating a Culture of Honor
Today is Shirl and I’s 23rd anniversary
Happy Anniversary Shirl I Love you!
The Kingdom Way is to Love God Love People Make Disciples
The only way for what we are building to last is to ensure a culture of honor is ingrained into our DNA
Today I want to talk about a Cultivating a Culture of Honor
A Culture of Honor has 2 Aspects:
a. Honoring God
You who fear the Lord, praise Him;
All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him,
And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.
; )
b. Honoring one another (; )
Honor the Lord from your wealth
And from the first of all your produce;
)
b. Honoring one another (; )
b. Honoring one another
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;
Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them.
The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court,
they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act.
“Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?”
They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.
But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court.
Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?”
She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.”
I believe this passage of Scripture is very relevant to the current climate of our world culture
Here we have a woman caught in sin, and the religious leaders bringing her to Jesus to be condemned
Where was the man?
It takes 2 to commit adultery doesn’t it?
2. The Pharisees would legally correct
Law stated she should be stoned to death
‘If there is a man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, one who commits adultery with his friend’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
3. What did Jesus write on the ground that made the religious leaders leave?
4. How did Jesus treat the woman?
He honored her
He elevated her , made her human
He Did not condemn her
Here we have a woman caught in sin
He Corrected her
She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.”
There are 2 ends of the spectrum in the modern church
Judgement vs Grace
on one end of the spectrum
Some churches hold up signs in protest and hurl hatred toward the sinner
On the other side of the spectrum focus soley on grace and conform to the ways of the world.
Accepting whatever the world says, and re-interpreting the Bible.
I believe both these methods are in error
Jesus did not condemn, but neither did allow the sin to continue.
Go. From now on sin no more.
A part of the message of Grace that is missing in many churches.
So where does Kingdom Way fall on the Spectrum?
I believe we need to be open to developing relationships with the pre believer.
honoring people, but not accepting that they remain in the sin.
There are many issues that face the Church in our society today.
The beliefs of our society and our own, are getting increasingly distant
Like many times in History, what the Church should believe, and what our society believe are in direct conflict.
Issues like Abortion, and homosexuality are not enjoyable topics when you are talking with an unbeliever
Despite what many people who claim to be Christians might say.
the Bible is clear
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
,
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
Grace is not a doormat to wipe your feet and then continue the way you are living
Grace is the power to live your life the way God intended.
Its not just about getting your sins forgiven, It about living free from the power of sin.
We Honor God first…
a. With our praises and worship
You who fear the Lord, praise Him;
All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him,
And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.

and He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
‘Now behold, I have brought the first of the produce of the ground which You, O Lord have given me.’ And you shall set it down before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God;

“Therefore the Lord God of Israel declares, ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever’; but now the Lord declares, ‘Far be it from Me—for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.

We Honor Each Other
a. By considering others better than ourselves
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
)
b. By caring about the interests of others (Philippines 2:4)
c. By appreciating the different gifting and strength of one another ()
d. By being affirmative and encouraging ()
b. By caring about the interests of others
do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Philippians 2:4
c. By appreciating the different gifting and strength of one another
For the body is not one member, but many.
If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.
And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.
If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?
But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.
If they were all one member, where would the body be?
But now there are many members, but one body.
And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”
On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;
and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable,
whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked,
so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

d. By being affirmative and encouraging ()

Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,
and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
