Why did he take only those three? Where the other disciples too busy to go or where they ministering to others?
He took them so that they could witness the events/ and so that they could understand the power of praye
What do we know about Jesus Prayer life?
Did Jesus have a particular time or place in which he decided/wanted/needed to pray?
In the first chapter of Mark it states- Very early in the morning…
35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Before the Miracle of the five loaves and two fishes He prayed
: 41 Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them.

Jesus prayed in the wilderness.
But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.

He prayed all night

I THINK THAT Jesus prayed without ceasing, in communication with him consistently.
How and why do we pray?
How is Christ manifested in our prayers?
Do we follow the command of God and Listen to his son when we pray, when the prayers are physically completed?
Do we pray with a concept of “mine” or ‘gimme”?
Do we expect our prayers to be answered, or do we pray for "show"?
9 “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread. 12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’ 14 “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 ‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Do we pray to be forgiven?
11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.
12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from bevil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’
14 “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
We cannot forgive others without prayer, nor be forgiven
The Lord is increasing our awareness of the- importance of prayer, and practice of prayer.
The Lord is increasing our awareness of the- importance of prayer, and practice of prayer.
James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceiving themselves.
Doer- one who performs (puts truth into action in life).
Deceive- lying to myself, cheats me out of God’s blessing.
Matthew7:26 "Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
It is not enough to know truth and not live that truth.
As we pray we will enter into a place of encounter w/God, and out of that place will come- revelation- which will change who we are, and enable us to release the power of the Holy Spirit
God is looking for men and women who will engage in prayer and proclamation.

Ephesians- says we are seated in “heavenly places.”
As we practice the Biblical discipline of prayer we will learn how to access those “heavenly places.”
Praying the WAY Jesus says to pray
It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples."
The disciples saw something in the life of Jesus that they wanted for their own lives.
Mat 6 read with me outloud please
They were not looking for some ritual or formula.
They saw the results of prayer in Jesus life- lives changed, miracles, people set free/healed.
“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. There are- number of verses that teach us how to pray.
Mtt 6:9-13 (Lord’s prayer-stand up-recite together)
This prayer- great gift to the church from God.
God’s intent- not for us to memorize this prayer as if it is a magical formula that produces mystical results.
Good to memorize and use in our prayer life- but Jesus was trying to teach principles, not outward form.
Let’s break this down and examine five principles (truths) in Jesus prayer- He wanted us to pray in this way not repetitive but in this way.
1. Seek God with a heart for His presence
Matthew 6:9 "Pray, then, in this way: ’Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Hallowed- holy, the opposite of common.
When we come to God we must recognize that He is- holy/pure/set apart/altogether different from us, a God of justice, all knowing/powerful,He is big/we are small.
holy/pure/set apart/altogether different from us,a God of justice,
all knowing/powerful,He is big/we are small.
He is also a God of love and compassion- ready and willing to forgive us of our sins. Through Christ, we have access to the Creator. He wants us to experience His presence.
19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

2. Seek God’s will over your own
Matthew 6:10 ’Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
We must come to that place where we are more interested in knowing the Giver than the gifts.
Matthew 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Does the world revolve around you and your needs?
3. Seek God’s to provide for your day
’Give us this day our daily bread.
Okay-to seek provision as long as our priorities correct
In the Bible, God has many names- i.e.-
Jehovah-rapha- the Lord is our healer
Jehovah-shalom- the Lord is our peace
Jehovah-shammah- the Lord is ever present
ALSO- Jehovah-jireh- the Lord is our provider
God will provide spiritually/mentally/emotionally/physically- for His people.
We talk about God being King or Lord or Creator-
He is also Source.
Too often we turn to sources that are not the true Source.
At the end of a hard/draining day we will often look towards entertainment to relax and get revitalized, as if distractions will renew us. True revitalization comes from looking towards God.
Me and food or movies
Too often- live like- everything comes by our efforts.
Grandchildren- think milk comes from the store. They never interact w/the cow, so in their mind Publix is the source. When we do not interact w/God, other things become our source.
children- think milk comes from the store. They never interact w/the cow, so in their mind the store is the source. When we do not interact w/God, other things become our source.
Walmart/employer/government- are not our source.
When we come to God- must come w/attitude that-God is our eternal provider, it is what the end has in store for us. Many of us suffer and many in the bible suffered greatly for ways and means to the eternal end.
When we come to God- must come w/attitude that-God is our eternal provider, it is what the end has in store for us. Many of us suffer and many in the bible suffered greatly for ways and means to the eternal end.
God is our provider, everything that we have comes from Him.
We also need to come with a heart of thanksgiving.
Many of us have needs- financial, a new job, your marriage is struggling, health issues.
What do you need? Go to God-He will meet your needs, or in the middle of meeting your needs- He will reshape how you think about your needs.
Lot of suffering for many right now. Pete Moss massive stroke, Bob Perine health issues. Is that God or is that this life and there is an eternal life for them that has no pain and suffering.
in the middle of meeting your needs- He will reshape how you think about your needs.
4. Seek God’s forgiveness
Matthew 6:12 ’And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
This is where we come to God and we ask Him to forgive us for sin in our lives.
It is a place of humility- a falling down before God.
This should be a regular part of our lives.
Biggest problems- self-centeredness, selfishness.
How many are here today that recognize-in some area- you have a need to ask God for forgiveness?
Too many carry their sin around with them because they will not come to God and repent.
This is what BYO truly stands for bringing YOU and your OWN separation from God to the cross to seek to be forgiven and receive it in Jesus name
5. Seek God’s Power to overcome evil
5. Seek God’s Power to overcome evil
Matthew 6:13 ’And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Jesus voiced a prayer in the Gospel of John that was a decision to go with Gods plan and not his own human desires Laboring under the weight of the task before him, Jesus considered the depth of what he was about to suffer on the cross. He contemplated a request for God to deliver him, but quickly changed direction—affirming that what he was about to endure was the very reason why he came to earth.

Jesus voiced a prayer in the Gospel of John that includes some similarity to David’s prayer (). He has always been there for us, leading, guiding, directing. He
is here right now waiting for your prayer, give Him the time You need more than anything else.
