Introduction
So in this story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 we see the only miracle before Jesus’ death that is recorded in all 4 Gospels.
This wasn’t how the day was supposed to start.
The Revised Standard Version Chapter 6
31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat
Jesus and his Apostles go to spend a quiet time together and grab something to eat.
If you don’t come apart with Jesus to rest, you will come apart at the seems.
Everybody needs to rest, even criminals.
God wasn’t worried about money, he was worried about a miracle.
It is easy to point out flaws in a plan.
However, it takes a leader to bring possible solutions.
Philip brings what won’t work.
Andrew brings a possible solution. Every time we see Andrew do something in the Bible, he is brining someone to Jesus.
Who is the last person you brought to Christ?
Next we see a multiplication.
We would rather see a miracle of creation, and not a miracle of multiplication.
We sit back and want God to do a miracle of something we haven’t done yet
God wants to work exponentially with what we give to him.
Jesus did not perform the miracle until the fish and loaves were given to him.
God will take what we have, the little thing we have in our hands, and see how God can multiply it.
At the end, they gathered up what was left.
vs 14 - this is truly the prophet who has come into the world.
Pointing to Moses who said a greater prophet was sitll coming
The end game is not the food that they ate, but the spiritual conclusion
If you just feed someone, and don’t give them the Gospel then you don’t change their lives.
Do not labor just for the food that perishes. Labor for the food that will lead to everlasting life.
