Luke 13:10–17 NASB95
10 And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” 13 And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God. 14 But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, “There are six days in which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” 15 But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him? 16 “And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?” 17 As He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.
Then he taught about entering in the narrow gate……
And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all.
When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your sickness."
And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God.
Luke 13:31–33 NASB95
31 Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, “Go away, leave here, for Herod wants to kill You.” 32 And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My goal.’ 33 “Nevertheless I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.
But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, "There are six days in which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day."
But the Lord answered him and said, "You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him?
"And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?"
As He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.
Jesus in our text was teaching here in the synagogues on the Sabbath. And here come a woman that had been bent over for the last 18 year. Being moved by Love, Servanthood and mercy and the fact that he is faithful.
When our lord started to talk about the kingdom of God comparing it to a mustard seed.
Then he taught about entering in the narrow gate……
luke 31-33

the Bible say he saw a woman that had been sick for 18 years.
in the book “knowledge of the Holy” written by AW Tozer.
I been reading the book “knowledge of the Holy” written by AW Tozer.
He start off the book by saying.
“Always the most revealing thing about the church is her idea about God, just as her most significant message is what she says about Him or leaves unsaid, for her silence is often more eloquent than her speech.” AW Tozer
the question becomes, “how does the church talk about God. More specifically, how do you talk about God.”
the question becomes, “how does the church talk about God. More specifically, how do you talk about God.”
Then he goes on to say,
“the man who come to a right belief about God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems.” AW Tozer
Remember
Remember
2 Corinthians 4:17 NASB95
17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,
2 co 4
Right beliefs, gives one proper perspective.
We talk last week about How God wants to be know. this is also true.
YOU SHOULD WANT TO KNOW HIM!!
Tozer again Adds
“the gospel can lift this destroying burden from the mind, give beauty for ashes, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness” AW Tozer
Again, a change or perspective, because of information.
Then he adds
Then he adds
‎"The heaviest obligation lying upon the Christian Church today is to purify and elevate her concept of God until she is once more worthy of Him." AW Tozer
in essence, the greatest thing the church can do today is seek to know God.
You may say pastor derrick I don’t agree with that.
You may say pastor derrick I don’t agree with that.
But I say, a right understanding of who God is would push the church into passionate, revivalist, harvesting and holiness.
One of the scripture that I have been meditating on
Ephesians 1:17–23 NASB95
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
The knowledge of God is the vehicle of change and power for the believer.
The knowledge of God is the vehicle of change and power for the believer.
Now the question becomes. How can we know this God?
Last week we talk about the small and sometimes controversial work of “the cloud of unknowing.” which lays out this idea
“In approaching God, he says, the seeker discovers that the divine Being dwells in obscurity, hidden behind a cloud of unknowing; nevertheless he should not be discouraged but set his will with a naked intent unto God. This cloud is between the seeker and God so that he may never see God clearly by the light of understanding nor feel Him in the emotions. But by the mercy of God faith can break through into His Presence if the seeker but believe the Word and press on.
So this is the deal her. You can know God. You were made to know him.
You where created as sons and daughter to know him. So what He could reveal himself to you and you could spread the revelation of Him.
Ill quote tozer one more time.
”What is God like?” If by that question we mean “What is God like in Himself?” there is no answer. If we mean “What has God disclosed about Himself that the reverent reason can comprehend?” there is, I believe, an answer both full and satisfying. For while the name of God is secret and His essential nature incomprehensible, He incondescending love has by revelation declared certain things to be true of Himself. These we call His attributes”
So who is he and who are we to be.
Turn with me to
Philippians 2:3–8 NASB95
3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Notice verse 5
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus
Humble. Be humble go the way of Jesus. He was humble you be humble.
You cant have His same attitudes or attribute if you don’t know Him
Humble. Be humble, go the way of Jesus. He was humble you be humble.
Humble. Be humble go the way of Jesus. He was humble you be humble.
Jesus says this about himself when he say in
Matthew 11:29–30 NASB95
29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
Learn from know and notice
and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
why?
"For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Notice our text,
jesus had compassion on her.
why? Because he is Compassionate.
I just broke through the cloud and saw something about Him.
Isaiah 40:11 NASB95
11 Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.
Like a shepherd He will tend His flock,
In His arm He will gather the lambs
And carry them in His bosom;
He will gently lead the nursing ewes.
He is compassionate.
Mark 6:34 NASB95
34 When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for
them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach
them many things
That made the official of the synagogue real mad because you’re not supposed to heal on the Sabbath.
Look at somebody and say “they must not know Jesus.”
I thought Jesus did that to make them mad.
But the fact is that because God is faithful and loving and merciful and could not help himself.
Remember the bible says in,
2 Timothy 2:13 NASB95
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
He wasn’t trying to start a fight, he was just being Jesus.
He wasn’t trying to start a fight, he was just being Jesus.
See I not trying to make nobody mad. i’m just tryin to have the same attitude what was in Christ Jesus
See they didn’t know that his mercy couldn’t be contained by what day or time it was.
They didn’t know that his mercy surpassed the law.
That why Jesus heal on the Sabbath,
that why Jesus walk right in the room to raise Jairus daughter when a rabbi was not suppose to be around any thing dead
that why he heal the Syrophoenician Woman daughter when he to hear it was not right to give the children bread to the dogs.
He could help himself. That just who he was.
And if that is who God , those things become priorities to me as well
The church must seek to know Him, with the understanding that He wants to be know!!!
WHO is He, good question
Jeremiah 29:13 NASB95
13 ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
jer 29:
and 1 john 3 says
1 John 3:2 NASB95
2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
1 john 3:
Seeking Him makes you care less about seeking the approval of others
it goes down the scale of you priorities.
I don’t care what you think.
So word got back to Herod the king the works and the boldness of Jesus.
I must be like my daddy
So word got back to Herod the king the works and the boldness of Jesus.
Look at them and say SO.
The Pharisee told Jesus that Herod wanted to kill him. Jesus said SO.
You go tell that Fox that I cast out devil and heal. And that what I will be doing today and if you looking for me tomorrow and the next day I will be doing the same thing.
Herod must not know who I am.
We got to make up in our mind that no matter that anybody thinks
No matter what anybody says I not going to stop being like Jesus.
Herod your not going to scare me.
Your not going to intimidate me.
I don’t care it you hate me.
My father loves me.
I don’t care what you say about me.
(Close)
Jesus said nevertheless I must keep on going today, tomorrow and the next day. In essence I cant deny myself. I must show my love, my faithfulness and my mercy.
And if you be in him you must do the same.
.
God says this is my son/daughter. Not only are we sons and daughters we are his beloved sons and daughters. And he does stop there he is well pleased.
