We model obedience
We model obedience
1 Then the children of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the Wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there.
2 Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron.
3 And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!
4 Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here?
5 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.”

6 So Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and they fell on their faces. And the glory of the Lord appeared to them.
7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
8 “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.”
9 So Moses took the rod from before the Lord as He commanded him.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?”
11 Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank.
12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
13 This was the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel contended with the Lord, and He was hallowed among them.

numbers 20:2-
Whenever the Israelites was facing difficulties, they will complain about it to Moses and Aaron and weep because they had stayed in Egypt.
difficulties either bring out the best of people or the worst in people; they either mature us or make us more childish.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Israel's words and attitude reveals that their heart was still in Egypt.
what a picture a professing Christian who still love the world and turns to the world for help whenever there's a problem.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
v. 6-9
It was the people who should have been on their face, confessing their sins and seeking God's forgiveness, but once again, Moses and Aaron fell on their face before the Lord and sought His wisdom and help.
Spiritual leaders pay a price As they seek to serve God's people, but the people usually don't appreciate it. The same people repeat the same sins and refused to trust God and Obey Him.

We model obedience by setting a good example.
Moses let his anger and frustration get the best of him. He did not set a good example.
“Here now you rebels”
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

“Here now you rebels”
“Here now you rebels”
26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
“Here now you rebels”
“Here now you rebels”
Moses spoke harshly to the Israelites, When we are representing the kingdom of God that we speak as one of the kingdom of God.
When you are unable to control your anger, you are showing that you do not trust him to make changes in people.
when you feel to control your anger; you are robbing God Have the opportunity to be glorified.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

“Must we bring water for you out of this rock?”
It wasn't Moses that was going to provide the water; it was God
Well there wasn't the one going to bring the water from The Rock, it was God that is providing the water.
Sometimes in our frustration we missed the opportunity to glorify God.
3. We model obedience by obeying God.
3. We model obedience by obeying God.
* Obedience is not always easy. God commanded Moses to perform an unusual feat. He was to speak to a rock.
“Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod”
*Obedience does not always make sense.“Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod”
What was the reason this was such a serious sin against God? it was because the rock wasn't just your every ordinary Rock, it was the spiritual Rock of Israel.
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,
all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
all ate the same spiritual food,
and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
