When I Decide to No Longer be Captive to My Captivity

Soanes, C., & Stevenson, A. (Eds.). (2004). Concise Oxford English dictionary (11th ed.). Oxford: Oxford University Press.
Verses 1-2 Speaks to the people that their Captivity was over
How are you to respond in a difficult time?
Captive n. — a person who is confined; especially a prisoner of war or exile.

By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion.
Psalm 137:2 ESV
On the willows there we hung up our lyres.
ps
Isaiah 40:1 ESV
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Comfort: to comfort v. — to alleviate sorrow or distress; give emotional strength to.
*God is speaking, but He is calling on someone to speak for Him.
The first 39 Chapters are grim and gruesome.
How are you to respond in a difficult time?
How are we to speak the Word when people are in captivity
Psalm 137:1 ESV
By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion.
Psalm 137:2 ESV
On the willows there we hung up our lyres.
Psalm 137:3 ESV
For there our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
*Can you be comforted in your Captivity ?
Psalm 137:4 ESV
How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?
Isaiah 51:3 ESV
For the Lord comforts Zion; he comforts all her waste places and makes her wilderness like Eden, her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of song.

When I Decide that the Conflict is Over

When I Decided that Peace Belongs to Me

Isaiah 40:2 ESV
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.
How is the Messenger supposed to speak for God
*Speak tenderly = Speak lovely
Literally translated : Speak from the heart and to the heart.
heart (internal feature) n. — the locus of a person’s thoughts (mind), volition, emotions, and knowledge of right from wrong (conscience) understood as the heart.
*Warfare is accomplished = A constant conflict a never ending battle
The Battle is Over = Peace
*Her iniquity is pardoned =-
*She has revived double for her sins
Peace Established
Pardoned Secured
Payment Made
This Has been done by a Person
Double=Now that cursing was seen as almost accomplished, Israel could have a new start. To receive double for all her sins does not mean to be punished beyond what she deserves but in keeping with what she deserves. The point is that she has now received “full” or “sufficient” punishment for all her sins (cf. “double” in ; ).
Double:Cruel slaughter and captivity at the hands of the Babylonians was sufficient payment for past sins; so someday after worldwide dispersion, Israel will return to her land in peace and in the glory of Messiah’s kingdom
Isaiah 40:2 ESV
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.

When I Decide to Decrease

Verses 3-5 Build a Highway so that all may see the coming Lord
Isaiah 40:3 ESV
A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
We are Just a voice

It doesn't matter matter
It doesn't matter who is speaking but what is being spoken
No recognition
