I am a Christian, but I cuss is that Ok?

A Sunday School teacher was teaching on the different between right and wrong.

So she asked her class a question. “If I were to get into a mans wallet and take all of his money what would I be?”

One child eagerly raised his hand and answered, “you would be is his wife!”

What is A Cuss Word?

This sermon has seemed to of gotten a lot of attention and opinions from people.

My guess is that there are a lot of people out there who deal with language and the proper use of it.

After all the Bible does say “Ass” as a description for a donkey.

Paul mentioned the word “Dung” which is a description of poop.

The bible also says that it is ok to be Angry, but don’t sin.

Do you also know that depending on what country you are in will depend on what is considered a cuss word or not. There are words that we use in our country today that are fine, but are cuss words in other countries.

The Struggle is Real

James 3:5–12 NLT

In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.

James 3:5-

Even James knew that our ability to control our mouths and what we say was going to be nearly impossible. Our tongues can build someone up and they can tare someone down.

We can speak a blessing at breakfast then a cuss word at lunch.

Is Cussing Ok or is it Bad is really Not the Question?

Many of us grew up with some pretty incredibly, dedicated people of God who find a subject of sin and preach on it all day long. Many times it felt so hard to live up to there standards.

I don’t believe it is cussing that we need to focus on, I believe it is our pursuit of God.

Matthew 6:33 NLT

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Out of heart is where we seek God, where is your pursuit of God.

The question that I often have to ask myself is where is God as a priority in my life?

Psalm 27:4 NLT

The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.

Is this my heart to dwell with God forever?

Where is Your Heart?

I am not going to sit up here and talk about a bunch of sins that people struggle with.

What i want to challenge you with is where is your heart? What are you persuing? Is God a priority in your life?
