Introduction
Introduction
Paul bursts into adoration here in our verse. He doesn’t work His way up to it, he jumps right in. This shows us that he cannot contain his joy and that he is thrilled with the truths the he presents in the following verses. The truth of what God has done in Christ has so grasped his heart that he bursts forth in exultation of His great God! These next set of verses are definitely high ground. They are a summary of God’s working in the salvation of every believer. They should cause us to worship and adore our God just like they did Paul.
A Good God/The Source of our Praise
A Good God/The Source of our Praise
To Bless God means to give him praise. To commend him as God and worthy of praise. Blessing God is the normal for Christians.
His Goodness
His Goodness
We bless God because He is Good! God is the very definition of goodness.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
Psalm 47:
For the Lord Most High is to be feared, A great King over all the earth.
He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.
The Lord is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works.
O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
He is the source of all goodness in this world.
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
Therefore he is worthy of our worship!
“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
This means we praise God when we feel like it and when we don’t. At all times and in all circumstances God is worthy of Praise.
His Goodness revealed as being a Father
His Goodness revealed as being a Father
God has revealed Himself as a Father, and that the Father of Jesus Christ. We don’t fully understand this or comprehend it, but we dare not pass it over. In eternity past, this good God was expressing His goodness always towards His Son.
“Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. “O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
(God doesn’t need us, he had the Son!)

God’s Goodness to all (Common Grace)
God’s Goodness to all (Common Grace)
The Lord is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works.
so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
These are life and material blessings that come to all people. All people don’t experience the same degree of them, but they all experience God’s goodness manifested to them.
This is why sin is so heinous, it is the slighting of the goodness of God!
Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
God’s Special Goodness to His People
God’s Special Goodness to His People
God delights in showering his goodness to his People!
This is just the introduction to the catalogue of what this Spiritual Blessing Is, we won’t discuss that today but lets mention them.
The Blessings are but aren’t limited to:
Election, adoption, redemption, forgiveness of sins, the Revelation of God’s purpose in history, sealing by the Holy Spirit, an eternal inheritance.
-They are exhaustive
“every”… God did not hold back when providing for the redemption of His people. He provided all spiritual blessings. God emptied his storehouse of blessings and poured them out. He didn’t hold back in pouring out his goodness and kindness on you! He lavished them on you.
God cannot give us more than He has already given us in His Son. There is nothing more to receive. The believer’s need, therefore, is not to receive something more but to do something more with what he has. Mcarthur
seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
-They are spiritual/heavenly
God’s best gifts are not material. This world has the stain of sin on it. God delights in giving the best gifts, that’s why they are spiritual, in the heavenly places.
We don’t judge God’s affection for us based on our outward circumstances! We can be thankful for the good that comes in our life and rejoice knowing that God gives good gifts. But we judge God’s affections towards us by our spiritual inheritance. These are untouched by our circumstances and offer us a wonderful hope.
Are you down, defeated, believer? Praise God today as an act of the will for providing you with good things that satisfy and are untouched by this world!
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

They are in Christ!
All of our Spiritual Blessings come to us through Christ. It is because of our attachment to Christ that we have God’s spiritual blessings! We have no spiritual blessings apart from Christ. The priest or Mary can’t give you spiritual blessings. The pope can’t give you spiritual blessings. Muhammad can’t give you these spiritual blessings. Buddah can’t give you these spiritual blessings. Only Christ and in Christ do you find the special favor and blessings of God!
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,
so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
