1 Samuel 10:26–27 KJV 1900
And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched. But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
1 Samuel 10:26 KJV 1900
And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

“And Saul went home to Gibeah, and there went with him a band of men, who hears God had touched” ().

TOUCH BY GOD

These were the best days of Saul’s reign as king of Israel. Unlike his years of failure as king he appears here as a real man of God.
The people around Saul are a contrast to his later years. Our text says Saul was surrounded by men who hearts God had touched.
Doeg, the corrupt Edomite, was not in this bunch, you can be sure of that! We note three things from our text about those who were touched of God in their hearts.
What a great phrase ends our text! Of course, there are those who do not want anything to do with God, who do not want to even get near to God, let alone be touched by God. They will have their wish. God will not touch them in blessing although He may touch them in judgment. That will be a far different experience than being touched by God in blessing.

Their Commitment “There went with him a band of men whose hearts God had touched.”

“There went with him a band of men whose hearts God had touched.”
1. The first thing we notice about this group is their attachment or commitment to Saul the King of Israel.
When you are touched by God you will follow the King.
Today that King is Jesus.
Some claim to be touched of God but they do not follow Jesus.
That betrays their claim. Others are looking for a sensational experience, something that is in the form of being elated, an ecstatic experience, being touched of God may involve an ecstatic experience but the proof is in following Christ.
Paul was touched of God.
Philippians 1:21 KJV 1900
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Talking much about the Holy Spirit is no substitute for following the King of kings.
Talking much about the Holy Spirit is no substitute for following the King of kings.

Their Crowd “Band of men.”

1. Those touched of God will want to be with others who have been touched of God. When God touched the heart of these men they wanted to be with others who have been touched by God.
2. Birds of a feather flock together.
3. Those who are God’s people will want to be around God’s people.
4. Disinterest in attending church on Sundays may mean you are in the wrong church or you are betraying your claim of being touched by God.

Their Contrast “Went with him.”

1. Those touched of God will act different than many others.
2. They will be more noble than others.
3. The text following our text speaks of worthless men, “children of Belial” who had not been touched by God. Their speech and behavior were very despicable.
1 Samuel 10:27 KJV 1900
But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
1. But when God touches you heart you will act in a better way. The touch of God makes us behave well, it does not make us act sickly in character.
But when God touches you heart you will act in a better way. The touch of God makes us behave well, it does not make us act sickly in character.
2. The touch of God will sanctify your conduct. Get near to God so He can touch your heart. It will benefit you and those about you when you follow the King.
3. “A” students are different. If God has touched your heart you will be a contrast to others.
