Today's Sermon “No More”
Being free from sin, (not past sin, pre salvation sin, but the daily struggle we are all in for righteousness.)
There are a couple of things that we need to understand in order to really unpack fully this message today.
First, we need to understand that as saved people, believers, Children of God through Jesus Christ, we are not immune to sin.
for you super spiritual people, this is not a Calvinist or a Armenian discussion… this is the word of God. This is scripture, and regardless of your views on the security of salvation… this truth is something that you can not ignore.
We are not immune to sin. Not only can we as redeemed children of God sin, but we do sin.
The question we have to process, and honestly this is the key to the freedom from Sin that Jesus has paid for, is this… What will we do with our sin?
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
1 John 1
The Struggle is Real
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
We Don’t Have To Sin
Walk Just as He Walked
The journey of Christianity is a daily walk… and this should not surprise us… Jesus himself told us as much.
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
The journey of Christianity is a daily walk
The journey of Christianity is a daily walk
And the journey is active… we don’t just follow, but we have to fight along the way.
1 tim 6… Paul has been talking to Timothy about false teachers and what true riches are… and he concludes with this challenge.
But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing,
---
We are to flee evil things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness… It’s a goof fight of faith that we have to fight in our Journey with the Lord… because “The journey of Christianity is a daily walk.”
----
Dealing with sin, our sin… is a huge part of this walk.
Sin makes us slaves and prisoners
Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
In the process of sanctification, as we strive to be righteous, we are going to have to fight a fight against sin in our lives… And it’s going to be hard at times because sin lies… it presents itself as fun, and fulfilling, and empowering, and exciting… and to a degree, it is… the bible tells us the Sin has it’s pleasures for a season. … the the full truth reveals that sin holds us captive… it keeps us from reaching our potential in Christ, and it’s constant purpose is to drive a wedge between us and God.
That’s why we have to fight to be free… that’s why we have to strive for righteousness…
But, again, the struggle is real… and sin is at time persistent…
((expound)))
We have to break free from sin… break free from the bondage that it would have in our lives…
And the cool thing is that God has given us the game plan… two steps this morning for saying”NO MORE” to sin.

And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
… Take the exits
self control isn’t about what not to do, it’s about what to do… when the way of escape comes… take the exit...

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Eric Greer quote.. “That which we focus on, is what we empower”
Don’t focus on sin… focus on God
Don’t focus on avoiding sin… focus on chasing God
Don’t focus on the problem, focus on the solution.
