Eph 2:
6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

II. BODY
A. Salvation is made alive with Christ
6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
A. Salvation is made alive with Christ
a. life with Christ is seated
1. Seated means enthroned with Christ (what’s that look like?)
20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,
21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
ESV20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Grace: unmerited favor; God’s involvement in our lives to do what we otherwise couldn’t do w/out him!
Grace: unmerited favor; God’s involvement in our lives to do what we otherwise couldn’t do w/out him!
Kindness: goodness of heart, silly good nature
i. w/Christ we have authority over all the spiritual pwrs o this earth!-This is why Jesus could say:
Kindness: goodness of heart, silly good nature
Matt 16:18-19 ESV18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
immeasurable: outdo, excel, surpass, overpower our sin circumstance of death in our trespasses
immeasurable: outdo, excel, surpass, overpower our sin circumstance of death in our trespasses
so often we tend to measure God’s grace & kindness based on our circumstances
-caveat: our name isn’t above every name,
so often we tend to measure God’s grace & kindness based on our circumstances
-but we r in Christ, thus we take on the name that’s above every name: Jesus!
2. alive, raised, seated with Christ is our spiritual blessings
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
ESV3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
as if to say, if God was gracious & kind we wouldn’t have bad stuff happen
as if to say, if God was gracious & kind we wouldn’t have bad stuff happen
as if to say, if God was gracious & kind we wouldn’t have bad stuff happen
ESV3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
this is never played out in scripture!
b. Life with Christ is immeasurable grace & kindness from God
this is never played out in scripture!
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
1. Abundant means full, complete, whole
ESV10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
truth is, that God’s grace & kindness is shown as we walk through these things WITH God!
truth is, that God’s grace & kindness is shown as we walk through these things WITH God!
i. This doesn’t mean the narrow, 1way, course w/Christ is easy street!
notice it says “ages” not “age”
1. Abundant means full, complete, wholei. This doesn’t mean the narrow, 1way, course w/Christ is easy street!-filled w/vacations, all the $$ u wantii. it means that the good shepherd will-defend us against spiritual destruction-& provision during our persecution as we proclaim this good news o salvationiii. this course w/Christ isn’t easy st. but a crazy, difficult, painful, awesome, amazing adventure!-that’s why Paul wrote
-filled w/vacations, all the $$ u want
ii. it means that the good shepherd will
-defend us against spiritual destruction
-& provision during our persecution as we proclaim this good news o salvation
iii. this course w/Christ isn’t easy st. but a crazy, difficult, painful, awesome, amazing adventure!
-that’s why Paul wrote
when Paul talks about coming age, he means When Jesus comes back
2 Cor 4:8-10 ESV8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.
8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;
9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.
c. Life with Christ is immeasurable grace & kindness from God
ii. When Paul talks about coming ages from now on…through Jesus’ return
7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
-means that as God’s people live out their saved, raised, & seated life with & in Christ it declares to the next generation God’s grace & loving kindness
ESV7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
ESV7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
1. God’s grace & kindness is immeasurable!
*Why sharing ur testimony is so vital to God’s cause to see his kingdom expanded!
i. Grace: unmerited favor; God’s involvement in our lives to do what we otherwise couldn’t do w/out him!
~expansion through ea. person accepting Jesus as Lord & Savior & therefore being made alive, raised & seated w/Christ!
ii. Kindness: goodness of heart, silly good nature
iii. immeasurable: outdo, excel, surpass, overpower our sin circumstance of death in our trespasses
-so often we tend to measure God’s grace & kindness based on our circumstances
*as if to say, if God was gracious & kind we wouldn’t have bad stuff happen
~this is never played out in scripture!
~truth is, that God’s grace & kindness is shown as we walk through these things WITH God!
2. notice it says “ages” not “age”
i. when Paul talks about coming age, he means When Jesus comes back
2. God’s grace & kindness is only accessed in Christ
ii. When Paul talks about coming ages he means from now on…through Jesus’ return
-means that as God’s people live out their saved, raised, & seated life with & in Christ it declares to the next generation God’s grace & loving kindness
*Why sharing ur testimony is so vital to God’s cause to see his kingdom expanded!

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
When Paul says saved he means made alive, raised and seated!
B. Salvation is God’s kind & gracious gift to humanity
a. When Paul says saved he means made alive, raised & seated!
1. There4 made alive, raised, & seated is God’s gift 2 humanity!
i. How do we access it?
b. this gift is unwrapped by faith (trust)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
C. The gift is never earned
9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
no good people allowed, only God’s people
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
D. The new you: a recreation workmanship
a. workmanship: masterpiece
don’t feel like a masterpiece?
6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
i. we are masterpieces under construction
ii. Completion date? - When Jesus comes back…or calls us home
b. re-created on purpose, for a purpose, which God designed u for!
1. Purpose isn’t our 9-5 job.
i. carpenter
ii. banker
iii. hamburger flipper
iv. painter
v. stay-at-home-parent
-What’s our purpose?
2. Our purpose is the ministry of reconciliation
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
i. our purpose is to bring the msg o reconciliation to folks still dead in their trespasses
-now, maybe he created u with talents like carpentry, parenthood, banker, etc
-but that’s so u can enter into that network o folks, but ultimately our role is 2 expand the KOG through gospel living & proclamation!
3. Our purpose is meeting peoples’ needs
15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
4. We can’t fulfill these purposes alone
i. We need to stay in Jesus
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:
-notice that eph 2:10 says we are created in Christ
-We aren’t recreated in Christ so we can turn around and walk away from him
ii. Abide means to continue living in
iii. in Christ means intimate relationship w/Christ
-there4 abide in christ: continue to live intimately engaged w/Christ relationally
-to live in any other way we find we’ll accomplish nothing
-Remember that we’ve been talking about our course with Christ!
*the course w/the world is the highway to hell where we live dead in sin
The course w/Christ is the narrow 1-way st. which is an eternal journey
~on this journey we see in that we walk w/Christ meeting our purpose:
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
5. Walk in our purpose with Jesus!
4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
i. This is where the H.S. comes in
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
