The Teachings of Jesus

Passage: 0
Introduction:
1. Jesus sits with his disciples and begins to
teach them.
2. His disciples are learning about who he is, and
what it is to be like him.
3. How are we impacting the people around us?
3. Jesus says we are the salt and light of the
world.
4. How are we impacting others?
Passage:
Verse 17, Jesus came to fulfill the law, to bring the law to it intended goal.
the pharisees and scribes missed it, they believed that if they just followed the law, they would be good with God.
The law was meant to show us how far we are from God, it is meant for us to understand that we cannot follow the law, we will break the commandments.
We pay consequences by breaking the commandments.
Jesus came to complete the law, to release us from the law.
Verse 18, our responsibility to the law.
Introduction:
OT required people to sacrifice (death) for sin to be forgiven.
But, they were still needing to follow the laws of thier time.
With Jesus, we no longer need to sacrifice, He was the sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins.
But, we are still to follow the law, two rules, love God, love your neighbor.
The Old Testament had 10 commandements and Jesus made it 2, both of the commanments compliment each other.
Verse 19, the law becoming more important than Jesus.
The law cannot become more important than Jesus.
Pharisees wanted to kill jesus because they believed he went against the law.
Jesus claimed the law of love fulfilled the laws of Moses.
Verse 20, Jesus confuses the pharisees and scribes.
These men followed the law, but thier hearts were not in it.
Jesus said it was more important to follow the law because you love him, than to follow them to look good.
you cannot earn or work your way to heaven, Jesus puts you their.
Closing.
The law was here to show us our sin.
The consequences for sin is death, hell.
Jesus came to pay the penalty (pena) of death on the cross.
This can only happen if (1) you have asked forgiveness of your sin, (2) you make Jesus your lord and savior (3) you become a disciple of Jesus..start by baptism.
altar call....prayer.
