Heroes are Selfless

So it is our confidence and assurance in God that gives us courage and strength. It is our confidence and assurance in God’s Word that gives us wisdom.

Today we are talking about being self-less. What does it mean to be self-less?

Being self-less means I put others needs before my own needs even if it means I get nothing in return.

This is a hard thing to do! It is difficult to put other’s needs ahead of our own needs- even with people that we love. Do you always put the needs of your brothers and sisters ahead of your own needs? If there are two cups, a green cup and a blue cup, and you and your sibling both want the blue cup, is it easy to say, I’ll take the green cup, my sibling can have the blue cup. Is that easy to do, or is that hard to do? HARD. And that is being self-less to someone that we love. But Jesus took self-less love a step further.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

It is really hard to be self-less. How can we do it? How can we actually get to the point where we love our enemies, and we bless those that curse us (be mean to us with their words)? How can we do good to those that hate us (be mean to us with their actions)? That is really hard, how is that king of self-lessness possible?

It is only possible through faith! As we put our faith in Christ, and first of all trust Jesus as our Savior- then Jesus beings to change our hearts and he begins to make us more like Him.

Who is the greatest example of self-lessness in the Bible? It is Jesus.

What did Jesus do that was so self-less?

What else did Jesus do that was self-less?

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus died on a cross to pay the penalty for your sin. And Jesus did that for you when you were God’s enemy. Did you know that?

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Christ, because He loved you so much, willingly gave his very life for you, He died on a cross for your sins, when you were an enemy of God. Now that is self-lessness.

Kids a real hero for God is self-less. He does not put his own needs first, but puts others first- even his enemies. This is something only God can do inside of us. Only God can change our hearts and make us self-less. And we can only be self-less through faith. First of all- you need to put your faith in Jesus Christ to save you from your sins. Second, if you know Jesus as your Savior, if you know your sins are forgiven, but you really struggle with being self-less. Do you fight and argue with your brothers or sisters? Do you fight and disrespect your parents? Do you always have to have the best things for yourself? If you struggle with this- first you need to confess that sin to Jesus. It is a sin. And we need to be sorry for that sin and ask Jesus to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Second, we need to put our confidence in Jesus to change our hearts to become self-less like He is.
