Story
You tell children “because I said so!”
For safety.
For reasons that they don’t understand.
Question
Have you ever been told “because I said so!”?
Have you ever felt as if God deserted you?
Text
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Paul gives us these reassuring words that the Lord God has not deserted us in out great time of need. He has not left us or turned His back on us.
“all things” -
all good and all bad; everything that is easy and everything that is difficult; every time I am happy and every time I am sad; when I am living in riches and when I am living in poverty; when I am as healthy as a horse is as sick as a dog; during the beautiful sunrise and during the horrific storm
God is ALWAYS in control. He directs every event in our every day lives to an outcome that is always best for those who love Him.
The “good” spoken about in this verse is not always, in fact rarely, what we think is best or even good.
“works” and “those who love him” apply 100% to us today. These words are not in the past tense.
Not everything is good in and of itself, but God uses everything for our good.
Application
Our lives are like a stained glass window. When we examine each peace individually it looks like a mess. When we the “son” shines through our lives as a whole, it is a beautiful picture.
Challenge
We must not accept defeat in our lives!
