Words can have great power. They can move us to action or they can move us to tears. They can encourage and build someone up or they can tear down. How could we ever communicate effectively if we could not use words. Even sign language is just another form of speech.
so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Charades
We have seen that God desires to have a deep relationship with us. That relationship itself begins with God’s word. God uses the message of Jesus Christ to awaken faith within us.
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

God’s word is powerful. God spoke, and creation took place. Throughout the Bible God speaks to people, calling them to special tasks, to be His people, to teach them His will. Finally the word became flesh and lived with us. God’s word goes forth and always accomplishes its purpose.

Today I want to look at how God’s word brings us.

The Word initiates faith.
The Word initiates faith.
It is the seed which, when it falls on good soil, grows and produces fruit.
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

God’s word will speak to us, open our eyes to see and our ears to hear, and bring our spirits to life.
God’s word will speak to us, open our eyes to see and our ears to hear, and bring our spirits to life.
Augustine, Martin Luther, John Wesley – all were awakened spiritually by hearing the Word
Charles Spurgeon gives this example:
Some of you will remember my preaching from the text, “What if thy father answer thee roughly?” ( kjv) There came into the vestry after that sermon a venerable Christian gentleman, bringing with him a young foreigner whom he was anxious to satisfy on one point. He said, “I want you kindly to answer this question—have I seen you concerning this young gentleman?”
“No, sir, certainly not,” I said. And assuredly, though I knew the gentleman who addressed me, he had never spoken to me about the foreign stranger whose very existence was up to that moment unknown to me.
He said, “This young gentleman is almost persuaded to be a Christian. His father is of quite another faith, and worships other gods, and our young friend knows that if he becomes a Christian he will lose his father’s love. I said to him, when he conversed with me, ‘Come down and hear Mr. Spurgeon this morning.’ Here we came, and your text was, ‘What if your father answers you roughly?’ Now, have you ever heard a word from me about this young gentleman?”
“No, never,” I said.
“Well,” said the young man, “it is the most extraordinary thing I ever heard in my life.”
I could only say, “I trust it is the voice of God to your soul. God knows how to guide his servants to utter the word most fitted to bless men.”
The Word builds faith
The Word builds faith
Before you can have faith or trust in someone, that trust has to be built. The word does that by:
Teaching about Christ’s character
Teaching about Christ’s character
Just
Merciful
Holy
Faithful
For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.

The Word is about Christ
The Word is about Christ
Not just any word, not just any message, not just about any person
The good news about Jesus.
His love
His sacrifice – He is Savior
His resurrection – He is Lord
His teaching
His return – He is coming again
The Word must be heard
The Word must be heard
Not just hearing the words but taking them in and understanding them. When this happens the word begins to transform us, creating in us a new heart, giving us new life.
Larry King wasn't hosting his talk show, he was the guest on a talk show. But the host wasn't really paying very close attention to what Mr. King was saying. She asked questions but she wasn't listening to the answers. She was busy lining up the next question.
Well, King noticed what was going on and it irritated him. So when she asked, "What's the secret of being a good talk show host?" King began to have fun. He said something to the effect, "Well, my secret is that I'm a secret agent for the CIA. They pay for the guests and pay me to send out secret messages over the air each night."
The hostess was fiddling with her notes and stuff and didn't even notice. Instead she went right on as if nothing happened and said, "That's great. What's the secret of getting great speakers?"
Her crew and staff, on the other hand, were going crazy. It pays to pay attention. It pays to look out and see what's going on around you. Don't miss God's message. Don't miss God's great gift of grace.
There will be times in life when our faith is challenged – by encountering different viewpoints, by doubts and fears, or by trials and tragedies. This is when we need to go to God’s Word and let it feed our spirits and strengthen us.
Of course, God not only desires to have relationship with us, but with our neighbors as well. God uses the message of Christ to bring people to faith, and uses us to proclaim the message of Christ.
This is why it is so important for us to speak about Christ, to tell the good news to people.
