Wake up! Ephesians 5:8-14

Intro -
my favorite part - title of sermon is “Wake up” - turn to left
being awake, and being asleep - that is a distinction
we make all kinds of distinctions and groups (Coffee drinking)
being an early riser, or a late riser
personal example: puts me further in mind of this scripture.
“Awake” as a christian.
Turn in your bibles to Ephesians 5:8-14

Scripture

1. Goodness: Vs. 9

Not just a call for “good behavior” - but a call for benevolence and generosity of spirit Mark 10:43

2. Righteousness Vs. 9

Actual Meaning “Justification”
and justification can be split into two meanings.
“Being justified” - the actual act of being made right before God
Actively living out your justification
Translation: God didn’t save you so you could warm a pew. He’s given you a purpose!
at one time, because of your sin, you were completely alienated from God, from your own choosing.
now that Jesus has made you light you now have access - Have a relationship, hear God through word, approach the throne as son or daughter

3. Truth Vs. 9

Not just truth as in the opposite of a lie,
living out morality - Where do we get our morality? God’s word. John 14:15
Transliterated meaning: not concealing - not hiding under a bushel, NO! letting it shine.
which if you live according to Jesus’ commands revealing will come standard!
scripture
Challenge to believers
Believers, It’s time to wake up!
“The man who is asleep doesn't care what becomes of his neighbors; how can he be while he is asleep? And OH! Some of you christians do not care whether souls are saved or sentenced to Hell…it is enough for them if they are comfortable. If they can attend a respectable place of worship and go with others to heaven, they are indifferent about everything else.” - Charles Spurgeon
I think of it as falling asleep at the wheel. God has given you tasks, and responsibilites. we can’t be caught sleeping on the job.
if you’ve heard this and the Holy Spirit is telling you “i’m talking about you, here are 3 simple ways we can live out God’s design, and live as the light

Practical Application

Give and serve every chance you get.
Enjoy your relationship!
Reveal - Repent - Reveal
First Baptist Church has been asleep for far too long. It’s time to wake up, and christ will shine on you
