Toxic “DNA”
The Message (MSG)
14 1-3 When they got to Iconium they went, as they always did, to the meeting place of the Jews and gave their message. The Message convinced both Jews and non-Jews—and not just a few, either. But the unbelieving Jews worked up a whispering campaign against Paul and Barnabas, sowing mistrust and suspicion in the minds of the people in the street. The two apostles were there a long time, speaking freely, openly, and confidently as they presented the clear evidence of God’s gifts, God corroborating their work with miracles and wonders.
4-7 But then there was a split in public opinion, some siding with the Jews, some with the apostles. One day, learning that both the Jews and non-Jews had been organized by their leaders to beat them up, they escaped as best they could to the next towns—Lyconia, Lystra, Derbe, and that neighborhood—but then were right back at it again, getting out the Message.
Spiritual Toxins: poisonous things that we encounter in life that can contaminate the pureness of life that God designed for us to experience.
TOXIC – extremely harsh, malicious, or harmful as in someone having a toxic sarcasm.
Greeks used toxic poisonous arrows and spears. Alexander the Great encountered poison arrows during his conquest of India, that were dipped in the venom of a viper [snake; serpent].
Breakdown of Toxic “DNA”:
1. D- DEADLY Sting of SIN makes us DYSFUNCTIONAL
(VOICE)
Evildoers are naturally offensive, wayward at birth! They were born telling lies and willfully wandering from the truth. Their bite is painful; their venom is like the deadly poison of a snake; they are like a cobra that closes up its ears
2. N - NEGATIVE thoughts control our NATURE
And now I’m afraid that exactly as the Snake seduced Eve with his smooth patter, you are being lured away from the simple purity of your love for Christ. (MSG)
(MSG)
At one time you were like a dead person because of the things you did wrong and your offenses against God. 2 You used to live like people of this world. You followed the rule of a destructive spiritual power. This is the spirit of disobedience to God’s will that is now at work in persons whose lives are characterized by disobedience. 3 At one time you were like those persons. All of you used to do whatever felt good and whatever you thought you wanted so that you were children headed for punishment just like everyone else. (CEB)

3. A - ANGRY Attitudes affect your ACTIONS
1 The same thing happened in Iconium; they entered the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against the brothers. – (Holman)
31 Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. 32 For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. 33 You will see hallucinations and you will say crazy things. – (NLT)
The Antitoxin for our souls (The Good News)
And don’t get drunk [“in-toxicated”] with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit. - (Holman Christian Standard)

TOXIC – The terms "toxic", "toxin" and “in-toxicate”, derive from the ancient Greek word for "bow", toxon, from Old Persian *taxa-, "an arrow". Greeks used toxic poisonous arrows and spears. Alexander the Great encountered poison arrows during his conquest of India, that were dipped in the venom of a viper [snake; serpent].

3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. 4 Their poison is like the poison of a serpent… -
2. N - NEGATIVE thoughts control our NATURE
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. – (NKJV)
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. – (NKJV)
3. A - ANGRY Attitudes affect your ACTIONS
26 “Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun set while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity to work. 28 The thief must no longer steal but must work hard and do what is good with his own hands, so that he might earn something to give to the needy. 29 Let no filthy talk be heard from your mouths, but only what is good for building up people and meeting the need of the moment. This way you will administer grace to those who hear you. 30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit, by whom you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, quarreling, and slander be put away from you, along with all hatred. 32 And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another just as God has forgiven you in the Messiah. – (International Standard Version)
31 Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. 32 For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. 33 You will see hallucinations and you will say crazy things. – (NLT)
