Introduction:

I cannot tell you how honored I am to be standing in front of you both today and be involved in such an amazing day in y’all’s life.
I am blessed to be here today as I’ve been blessed to be y’alls friend for these years and to see most of y’alls story.
A story that is amazing, a love story only God could bring together.
Like any good story, this one starts at THE University of Texas
I can attest that “What starts here, changes OUR World”
MET IN ENGINEERING - INFO FROM THEM
Personal Story
When Troy came into the picture
I saw you around at singer events - didn’t say much to each other - well because in this group there may not be space to say much.
He’s quiet this group is not
FIRST REAL DATES - INFO FROM THEM
Really met - Gingerbread Fest
Like one big inside joke - but you handled it so well
I noticed your dedication to Megan and Megan your admiration and respect for Troy.
One day that hit me in particular was - friends car got hit by a car - Megan didn’t have her license
Troy ran back to the house - half mile - and back in like 15 minutes
I saw dedication - literally run miles for Megan.
As the meet ups at Chuys and Gingerbread Events kept coming
It was clear there was love - love that could only come from God
The hymn we just heard talked about the power of God
“The power of God - the rolling thunder and universe”
But he also expresses power in the minute things that affect our lives
He put you in the classes together
He blessed each of your dates - each of your talks
He has brought this Together
And he brought all of here today to celebrate what God has brought together
God has a plan for marriage - it is written from the very beginning of man.

What God Wants From Marriage

Genesis 2:21–22 NIV
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
Genesis 2:24 NIV
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Genesis 2:21–24 NIV
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Genesis 2:24 NIV
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Genesis 2:2 NIV
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
-22
In that one little sentence God lays out his plan for marriage. There are three main action that God intends for every marriage to go through.
Ephesians 5:31 NIV
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
There are three main things that God intended for marriage:

Leaving

We are called to leave our families and go to each other
For our security for our needs - for meeting emotional and physical needs
This is not to abandon any one - friends or family
In fact take a moment to look around you, these are the people who will be there when you need help. The people you lean on.
I know I don’t speak for myself in saying that we are hear today to celebrate and vow to help in this marriage any way we can.
But none of them can take the place of the other holding your hand.
But it is about where we find our security - who do we go to first for our needs.

Uniting

To bring each person together
There is a commitment here - to go through whatever lives gives you
It’s not as easy and just moving from this day forth
There will be times of great trial and great joy
But you will be there together
- Let not man seperate
This includes each other - There is nothing too big that God can’t figure out

Become One

This is a process - not an immediate thing
To take separate lives with the backgrounds and put them together
Oneness is not a place to get to - it is a journey that will last your whole life

Christ as the Example

1 John 4:20 NIV
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
Ephesians 5:31–32 NIV
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
Ephesians 5:
1 John 4:19 NIV
We love because he first loved us.
In 1 John we are given the example that in marriage and in life we are to love one another as Christ loves the church.
Christ looks past our brokenness, looks through the trials to see the people.
As Christ intimately knows each and everyone here as the person he helped create
In marriage we should look at the person that we know God created
Look past the the struggles, the hurts and see the husband and wife you know
Christ meets us where we are
In marriage we need to meet the other where they are
whether they are grieving or joyful we need to meet them there
Build the love that carries each other through anything
Christ sacrificed to enable a relationship
Christ gave it all - He died for each of us so we could have a relationship with Him
Times will come when each of you will have to lay down something of your own
You will have to let go and put the other first
But with that you will see your marriage grow incredibly
So as Christ has every person on earth, we indeed should love each other in marriage.
As you two go from here, know that God has brought this together today and He is goin to fight for you both.
Let us pray.
