Where Is His Preeminence?
WHERE IS HIS PREEMINENCE?
Col. 1:18
I. Why He Should Have the Preeminence.
A. We are members one of another and He is the head.
B. He is God.
See this word beginning? The scripture tells us that He is the beginning.
The same is seen is Rev.1:8
There is also a paradox put forth in John 1:1 where it says “In the beginning was the Word…”
The scripture in John’s gospel goes on to say that He (the Word) was in the beginning with God, yet, John’s thinking goes even deeper into the complexity of the divinity of Christ, for not only is He in the beginning, but is the beginning.
See 1 Cor.15:24-28
II. How He Should Have the Preeminence, or First Place.
A. First we must understand that (in all things) relates not just to spiritual, but material.
For many Christians, Jesus gets the preeminence in their spiritual life, meaning church attendance, giving, etc. But then they separate their real wealth, heart, home, etc. Yet, God does not separate these things - He calls them, “All things”.
B. Secondly we need to understand that we do not belong to ourselves, but to Him.
(1 Cor.6:19-20)
C. By a willful and thoughtful appropriation of our lives, that ultimately glorifies Him.
1) My thought life. (Phil.4:8)
2) My relationships with friends, family, church, etc.
3) My hobbies, habits, etc.
4) My service.
5) My stewardship.
