042 Authority of the Apostles

I believe in Satan and his demons and the power and control he has over the mind and will of man.
Demon possion of the the unsaved is real:
ILL. US Hollywood under-minds demon control over man, by making the devil and his demons nothing more then fictional.
In Suriname we saw first hand the manifestation of demon control over people.
The Suriname people knew they were real, and from a earily age were taught to fear them and that they needed to appease them through spirit worship.
ILL. The little man...
I have been taught and practise that casting out demons was something any Christian today can do.
However in doing research for this passage of scripture I have come to believe that I was wrong and believe that those who taught me were wrong also, because the miracle of casting out demons was a gift that was given to the Apostles and is not for today.
ILL. Indain girl... In my own exsperence of when I tried, and wittinessing others trying.
Now I am basing this on scripture, what the Bible says about spiritual warfare and what it does not.

Apostles
Qulifications of an Apostle
a. First Requirement of an Apostle--An Eye Witness to the Resurrection
What about Paul. On the road to Demascus ,
b. Second: Apostles Possessed Miracle Gifts (Signs, Wonders and Miracles)
i. It is consistent throughout the book of Acts that every time a miracle happens, it is always in connection with the ministry of one of the apostles.
First Requirement of an Apostle--An Eye Witness to the Resurrection
Acts 5:12 KJV 1900
And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
ii. The gift of miracles was given by the authority of Lord Jesus

b. These miracles were to confirm the word of the Apostles ,
2. The primary function of the apostles was witness to Christ, and the witness was rooted in the 3 years they spent under the teaching and training of the Lord Jesus.
The New Bible Dictionary, Third Edition b. The Functions of the Apostolate

The primary function of the apostles was witness to Christ, and the witness was rooted in years of intimate knowledge, dearly bought experience and intensive training

a. the authorty they had to do signs and wonders was given by Christ to prove there wittness.

Hebrews
The Authority of Jesus
When Jesus healed He spoke and that person was healed.
They were completely healed
The healing wasn’t based upon how much faith the person had in Christ
;
When Jesus cast out demons, He spoke and it was done, there was no struggle, it didn’t take hours to do, He didn’t have the person sign a contact denouncing all his demonic activities, there wasn’t sprinkling of holy water or placing a cross on someones forehead. He spoke and it was done.
I mentioned earlier that the devil has control over the mind and the will of man
John 8:44 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
But the devil and his demons will not always have their way, this is why Jesus entered into world to destroy Satan’s power.
iii. When Lord Jesus Christ returns and sets up His earthly , Satan will not be permitted to tarnish it with his presence but will be locked up for 1000 years. ().
Released for one last burst of evil activity at the end of that Millennium, he and all his wicked, rebelling forces, both angelic and human, will then be cast into the lake of fire forever ().

iv. The earthly ministry of Jesus Christ foreshadowed Satan’s ultimate defeat where Lord Jesus, exercised absolute power and authority over Satan and his demons.
The earthly ministry of Jesus Christ foreshadowed Satan’s ultimate defeat. From the very outset, He exercised absolute power and authority over Satan and his demons.

v. When Jesus spoke, the demons had no choice but to obey.
II. Authority of the Apostles
Jesus cast out demons by authority. Jesus passed that same authority onto His Apostles. The Apostles could cast out demons authoritatively with a word. And they were gone. Now I believe that that is one of the apostolic gifts. I do not believe that such a gift exists today. I believe they had this gift for the purpose of confirming the Word. And I'm making mention of that here because we're not going to get to it until the second part of our message. And I don't want you to be left dangling on that.

I don't believe that that apostolic gift exists today. Where an individual could just walk up to an unbeliever in the name of Jesus Christ cast demons out. I think that's an apostolic, I think that's indicated in Hebrews, chapter 2, verses 3 and 4 where he says certain signs and wonders and gifts of the Holy Spirit were given to the Apostles. And and also in the end of Mark, I think it's chapter 16 verse 20, "they went everywhere, yes, and they were confirming the Word with signs, apostolic signs. And some of those signs" back to verse 17 "were casting out demons."

Philip
Good example of this is Paul and the demon possed girl
Acts 16:18 KJV 1900
And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

III. The authority of Christians today
A. In my inturptation of the Bible I believe that the ministries of casting out demons from the unsaved and the saved are Biblically wrong.
I am not saying that the demonic world is not real
I am not saying that unsaved people cannot be possesed and control by demons
I am not saying that as Christians we are not in a battle with them
I am saying we do not have the authority to cast out demons
We have the authority to preach the Gospel
B. God has given us tools to use to fight against the enemy we face
i.
It is not claiming the name of Jesus, that is nothing more the a formual
It is not pleading the blood, what is that, where in the Bible does it say that?
I not trying to belittle the blood Christ.
now justified by his blood
now justified by his blood
b. we have redemption through his blood
c. we are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
d. redemption through his blood
e. without shedding of blood is no remission.
redemption through his blood
f. enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
without shedding of blood is no remission.
g. We are sanctified by His blood
h. cleanseth us from all sin. I
sanctified
i. We are reedeemed by the blood 1 Pt 1:18-19
i. Rev. 12
j. All these verses deal with our salvation and sactification.
iii. How to we fight
cleanseth us from all sin.
a. What is the only hope of unsaved person, the Lord Jesus Christ
Colossians 1:12–13 KJV 1900
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Colossians 1:13 KJV 1900
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Col. 1:13
b. For a believer God has not left us powerless or without a battle plan.

1 John 4:4 KJV 1900
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Revelation 12:11 KJV 1900
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
