This commandment prohibits making and worshiping Idols, many people today think that this commandment only prohibits the worship of idols and Gods.
But the major issue is few today worship these types of Gods, so people think this commandment is irrelevant to modern life. However, the command is not only relevant to modern life it is the mother of all the other commandments
Today we have as many if not more false Gods as the ancients did we must identify false Gods and avoid worshiping them.
if there is one God there is one human race, if there are many Gods there are also many human races. and no person or group is better
But the major issue is few today worship theese types of Gods so people think this comandment is irelevent to modern life. However the comand is not only relevent to modern life it is the mother of all the other comandments
In addition, one God means we have one moral standard for everyone we can’t go to another god for another moral standard when anything else is worshiped terrible exalts exist
education for example is important but if it becomes our God it can lead and has led to evil most of Hitlers supporters were highly educated people

A. A Carved image
The letteral meaning here is something that is hacked or chiseled into some likeness.
The idea being anything man made is implicitly forbidden
This command includes images of the one true God. all of the nations around Israel had idols of their God’s
remember how the Israelites wanted a king because all the nations around them had a king, would it not be likely that they would also want an image of their God
Some have argued that the cherubim above the ark of the covenant were such images, but they were not objects of worship as much as symbols of the angelic beings serving God. and because the cherubim was permitted the prohibition of the image refers only to making the direct objects of worship not the representation of any living object as is sometimes understood.

Jelosey here does not refer to emotion as much as it does activity. In this passage the activity this is not to be seen as intolerance, but rather inexcusability. The idea being God is not one of many he does not share His Authority with any other god
