Philippians 1
19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
19 for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
1.”This shall turn to my salvation”
a. The salvation here is “deliverance” salvation delivers us from the penalty of sin, salvation delivers us from the power of sin.
b. Once you are saved, you are as saved as you will ever be.
c. Salvation has to do with the present and the future.
d. Paul was suffering, but he was doing so for the gospel .
“Through your prayer”
Paul know that since he was in prison the Philippians would pray for him much more.
a. We do pray more when there is a great need.
b. He know they loved him and would be remembering him in prayer.
“And the supply of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ”
We all (Believers) have the Holy Spirit, but we need a daily renewal, a contentious supply as it flows from Jesus.
20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
Phililppians 1:20
20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
Paul, no matter what, was to be magnify Christ. Even if it meant death.
“According to my earnest exception and hope, that in nothing shall I be ashamed” Look @NASB
a. Paul is specking of his strong belief.
b.Expectation: Expectation with uplifted head.
c. Paul say’s, I will not be ashamed in anything.
Shame: Feelings associated with (but not limited to) failure, public exposure, disgrace, embarrassment, social rejection, ridicule, and dishonor.
“All boldness” Paul was in no way shape or form a coward.
“So shall Christ be magnified in my body weather it be by life, or by death”
Elab in this.
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
For Paul, as long as he lived he would labor for Christ.
But if his time was over (death) that would be his gain.
22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.
I like the NASB translation of this verse.
Paul’s live was in the hands Nero. (Must likely writing from Rome)
a. If I live this will be fruitful for me.
b. Paul had no decision on weather he would live or die, I think a thought in his mind.
b. But if he was to continue to live, it would be a good thing for him because he would continue to serve the Lord.
c. Paul was in a race and his eyes were on the prize.
23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Philippians 1:23
23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;
Pretty much speaks for itself.
24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
This made me think of Bro Gene.
Paul’s not bragging on himself here.
Phi
25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,
Paul believed in a living God. And he had full confidence that as long as he (Paul) was still living, God would still use him.
a.
26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
26 so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.
I Paul would be able to come to them again, it would about the glory of God.
a. Paul was able to rejoice no matter where he was or what he went though.
