And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.
vers 4
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
what did the people hear?
vs 11
both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
what did the people say? / think?
vs
vs 12
And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”
this verse says they were all amazed and preplexed....
the word preplex means they were filled with uncertainty. It also means doubt here as well.
just because everyone is amazed dosent mean they a believing.
vs 13
But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
some of the people were mocking what was happening / happened/\.
Peopel will mock you, please dont think for a moment that they wont, they will.
They mocked Jesus, they will mock you!
Has this ever happened to you?
If it hasnt it will if you share and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Many wont share the Gospel because of this, they dont want to be singled out, to be made fun of.
Some will respond, some will laugh and mock, some will do or say nothing at all. But either way know that they heard!
We are called to proclaim Jesus crucified for me / and you!
Some wont share or share very little because of fear of rejection.
I have had a lot of people tell me this.
It leads me to think..... If the people hear and receive are we giving ourselves credit?
of course not. Its not about us, its about Jesus.
So why do people fear being rejected?
If the are rejected its not them thats rejected, its Jesus they are rejecting.
Just like if they receive they receive Jesus , not you or me.
We aren't called to be successful, we are called to be faithful.
But we arent selling or giving me / you.
We are giving the Gospel message of Jesus. Its His Gospel.
When you hear mocking of the Gospel, when you encounter resistance from people, when you face doubt with others whom you are sharing with.
Can you give an Explanation?
Peter, steps up and does just this as we see in verse 14
But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.
Its the Gospel, but its Peters words.....
where dose his words come from?
When you share, whose words do they hear?
Yours!
So where does your words come from?
Some dont share because they dont know the Bible that well and are afraid they will run into a snag and get stumped.
Then they will fear looking like a fool!!
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.
1 cor 1
this next verse was the last verse that confirmed I was able to proclain and teach Jesus.
But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
1 cor 1
God isn't looking for ability, He is looking for availability.
If God tells you to do it, He will surely give you the ability to carry it through!
Some will still feel as if they dont know the Word enough.
This has got to be the least of all excuses I have ever heard of in all my 52 years!
I can say that now.... 52 as of today!!
God is so good to us all!
Why is this the least of all of excuses?
look at verse 30
And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
1 Cor
Its all because of Jesus that you are saved!
Please dont let your lack of scriptures keep you from sharing the Gospel!
The only one that will share the Gospel openly is one who has been saved, the one who has been born again, the one who is a new creation in Christ!
The only way a sheep cannot make another sheep is
They arent a sheep and therfore thay cant make another sheep
or they are a sheep and are totaly isolated from another and therfore its impossible to reproduce.
If one is saved.
They know what they are saved from.
They know how they got saved!
The iceing on the cake,
They can testify what their life has been since being saved.
I call this the Glory Story.
Every beleiver has one.
Can you give an account / explanation when needed?
But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.
Peters words began with verse 15
For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
Its only 9 am people, no one drinks at 9 am, its to early in the morning.
This is what Peter was proclaiming to the people.
The same can be proclaimed today, because if a person is drinking acholol at 9 in the morning, they have a problem.
But this was only the beggining of Peters words,
verse 16
But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
Notice the words that are getting ready to proceed from Peters mouth are from the Phrophet Joel.
Peter knew God’s Word.
He knew it because he had read and studied it for himself.
I am sure He had heard it proclaimed but i beleive it cam efrom his own reading and studeing that he was able to proclaim it.
Had Peter memorized Joels words?
I dont think so.
Jesus had told the diciples that when they needed it He would bring all things to their remembrance.
I count on this daily!
I was blessed with the oppertunity to share at a memorial service last sunday and it worked out that I had no where to lay out notes or my bible.
I read a few verses and the Lord brought to my remembrance about 40 mins of proclaiming His Word.
I had read those verses, I had studied His Word. memorize it. I have a lot of it but i cant count on the memory. I count of God’s Promise to me and to everyone He has called.
If you are a Child of His you to are called to Proclaim His Gospel!
verses 16-21 from Bible.
vs 22
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know—
Peter speaks of the signs and wonders that God did through Jesus. He points out that they were done in their midst!
How many signs and wonders has God did in your midst?
He woke you up this morning.
He gave you safe travels here today.
He feed you yesterday,
He gave you a place to sleep last night.
He even gave you life!!!!
He has healed you when you needed healing.
He has blessed us with children, grand children, husbands and wives.
He gave us this Building!!!
God has given this ministry every single resource that we have ever had need of since before the very first service was ever held.
The Lord has done many signs, and wonders in each of our lives.
He made this world we are in, and then he allowed you to be a part of it!
and He countiues to allow you to be a pats of it!
I dont know where everyone is with the Lord Jesus this moment, but what I do know is that He has been good to each and every one of us here!
We might not think that He is in control but I assure you of this..
God is in total Control whether we like it or not!
God will allow us to do what we want,
Its up to us to do what He wants!
this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
2
delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God.
The Romans were the ones who cricified Jesus, they were the ones that killed Jesus.
but… God is in control!!!!
verse 23 tells us
Jesus was deleiverd up according to the definite plan of God!
Peter points out that they are the ones who killed Jesus, but only because God was in control.
Even this being done by the hands of lawless men, God was in control.
I am not saying that God causes evil, this is of satan, but God will allow at His will.
Job.....
But this wasnt the end for Jesus.
verse 24
God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
God raised Him up!
God loosed the pangs of death, because death could not hold Him.
Man put Jesus on the cross, But it was also part of Gods plan,
Man did not take Jesus life from Him, Jesus gave it up!
Jesus died and went to the grave and on the third day He arose!
He conqured death, He over came death and all of those who put their faith and trust in Him will also overcome death.
It was not possible for Jesus to be held by death!
Nor will it be possible for death to hold anyone that has received Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior!
Can You Give an Explanation to those who dont know? to those who mock?
Most importantly,
Do you beleive this?
Do you know that when you die you to will conquer death through Jesus and have eternal life?
Hopeing so isnt good ...
Its knowing so that counts!
The Bible says that each one will have the assuraunce of their own salvation!
Do you have this assuraunce?
Know that your sins can be forgiven, and that you can have eternal life.
by repenting,
to repent means to change ones mind / direction.
it simply means to stop going after all that the world has to offer and to go after the Lord.
Jesus said you are either for mMe or you are against Me!
Their is no in between.
No riding the fence.....
The Bible says to confess your sins
To simply agree with God that you are a sinner.
To Turn from your sin
To ask for forgivness of your sins.
To Beleive in the Death and resurection of Jesus.
All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved!
