The Love Of God
THE LOVE OF GOD:
“There was a little girl who was carried to a children’s home many years ago who had been disfigured in a fire. Her face was scarred and it was very ugly and very unbecoming. When the little girl, along with some other little children, was brought to the train terminal where the superintendent of the children’s home would pick her up, she stood off in the corner and watched as the superintendent picked up the other little children and hugged them and smothered them with kisses. In a little while she edged up beside the superintendent and said, ‘Please, mister, I know that I am not pretty like the other little girls, and know that my face is scarred and it is ugly and it does not look too good, but would you mind hugging me just a little bit. You do not have to kiss me, but would you just hug me a little bit and let me know that you are glad I am here.’ Well, of course, you know what he did. He reached down and took that little child with the scarred face, wrapped her in his arms and smothered that scarred face with kisses. So it is with the love of God” (Jerry Vines, Family Fellowship, pg. 165-166).
