God is Good!
God is Good!
This week is part 2 of our topic on the goodness of God, which speaks of both His Love and His Holiness. They are two attributes of God that must always go together. God is both loving and Holy, both are needed for God for be worthy of the name God.
A holy God without love is a tyrant withwhom we can never have fellowshiop and a loving God who without holiness is a cosmic pushover who is not with worship.
God is Logve.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
and God is Holy:
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Holy
Holy
What does that word mean? The Hebrew word “qu-dosh” means seperated, set apart and sanctified.
So what does say about God, What do the Angels, prophets and God Himself mean when it is said: God is Holy? In what way is God “set Apartr”? or we could ask “What is it that sets God apart from everything and every one else?
God is Holy because God alone has moral and ethical excellence and wholeness.
Everything about God, His words, His purposes, His thoughts, His actions, all His dealing - everything! Is always absolutely good, all of the time.
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good:
For his mercy endureth for ever.
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting;
And his truth endureth to all generations.
Reminder of last week - Love is not something God has but is what he is, its not in His nature, it IS His nature.
The same is true with Holiness. Holiness is not something God has, it is what he is. God’s nature is Holy.
What does that mean or imply? God is Holy, His nature is Holy What does it mean to have a holy Nature?
Holy implies Perfection.
Holy implies Perfection.
God is Holy, is just another way of saying “God is Perfect”.
And one cried unto another, and said,
Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts:
The whole earth is full of his glory.
Absolute, objective moral perfection.
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
No darkness at all, no evil, no wickedness, no sin, no fault, no flaw - at all! It is this moral perfection that gives God the absolute right to judge all people.
Its quite something to be perfect.
1: God’s Nature is perfect.
1: God’s Nature is perfect.
He is the Rock, his work is perfect:
For all his ways are judgment:
A God of truth and without iniquity,
Just and right is he.
His work is perfect - never slow or poor. His judgment are prefect - never unfair or biased. His truth is perfect - he never lies. His justice is perfect - he never cheats.
2: His name is perfect.
2: His name is perfect.
But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.
A name is a representation of ones Character. God’s nature as well as His character are holy and perfect.
3: His Word is Perfect.
3: His Word is Perfect.
The words of the Lord are pure words:
As silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
This bible is 100% totally perfect in all that asserts and touches upon, This book is the highest authority in all maters of faith and Practice.
4: His Will is Perfect
4: His Will is Perfect
As for God, his way is perfect;
The word of the Lord is tried:
He is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
I can pray “Thy will be done” with total confidence. Everything God has planned for your life to part of His perfect and divine will.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
5: His Knowledge is Perfect
5: His Knowledge is Perfect
Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds,
The wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?
God knows everything. There is nothing hidden from God. He sees every tear, knows every fear, knows every challange, knows every situation - and knows these things perfectly.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,
Thou understandest my thought afar off.
He knows what you think, he knows what you feel, He knows what you say before you even say it.
He knows your needs, he knows your prayers, he knows your weakness and he knows your desires.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Where is God’s Holiness seen most clearly?
Jesus Christ: A Lamb without Spot or Blemish.
Jesus Christ: A Lamb without Spot or Blemish.
Whatever is true about the Father is true about the Son. “I and my Father are one”.
Jesus gives us wonderful insight into holiness.
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Jesus Christ was perfect. he lived perfect life. His life was perfect in word, deed and thought. And this perfect life stands in sharp contrast to our imperfect lives.
Nailed it show example.
My life looks like a total mess when it is set next to the life of Christ.
And what is the proper responce of a sinner who has recgognised the moral and spiritual excellence of Jesus Christ?
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
This is sinful mans only legitimate response to a Holy God.
God is Holy, God is Perfect. We are not. We are sinners.
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil,
And canst not look on iniquity:
Wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously,
And holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
is God holding His tongue? For now, but not for long.
His love is the fuel of his compassion.
His holiness is the fuel of His wrath.
At the thought of God’s Holy Indignation the prophet Habakkuk said:
When I heard, my belly trembled;
My lips quivered at the voice:
Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself,
That I might rest in the day of trouble:
When he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
God’s Holiness is what assures me that He is coming again in wrath.
God’s love is what has provided me with a means of escaping that wrath.
That means is Jesus Christ.
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
