Be Ye Overcomers By The Word
BE YE OVERCOMERS BY THE WORD
Central text – Ephesians 6:10-17
INTENT
The intent of this study is to move us from a position of defeat in our spiritual lives to a position of victory in Christ Jesus.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this series is help us as individuals and as a corporate body to learn how to use the tools and weapons that God has provided for us so that we can not only overcome sin and temptations in our lives but so that we can recognize or discern the presence of sin in our lives and within the Church before it can ever gain a foothold.
GOAL
Our goal for this series is to lay out a systematic plan of development based upon the word of God that will teach us who our enemy is, how to detect him and how to use our God given weapons and tools to defeat him. The series will be broken down as follows:
- Week 1 – Who or what are we overcoming?
- Week 2 – How can prayer help us to overcome?
- Week 3 – How fasting can help us to overcome
- Week 4 – Stirring up the spiritual gifts to overcome
WHO OR WHAT ARE WE OVERCOMING?
Point #1 – we are to strive daily to overcome satan, who is the author of evil
- Characteristics
- Invisible – not only can he not be seen but he strives for his true works not to be seen so as to deceive
- Organized – Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places
- Father of lies – John 8:44
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
d. Crafty and always scheming – 2 Cor 11:3
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ
1. deceiving
2. craftiness (subtilty)
3. corrupted
