a. V. 11 – And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee
Verse | Scripture | Points |
V.11 | And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee | Jesus was on His way to the cross at this point. Three days earlier He had already healed another leper by touching him and saying, ‘be thou clean.’ (Mt 8:3) |
V. 12 | And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off | Once diagnosed w/ the disease and put out of the town by the priest, a leper couldn’t come within 12 feet of a clean person |
V. 13 | And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. | They had heard what Jesus had already done so when they saw Him afar off, they shouted for Him to do the same to them that He had done to other lepers |
| 14 | And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. | He didn’t heal them the same way He did the 1 leper 3 days before. For these 3 it wasn’t an instantaneous healing. Jesus forced them to take a walk of faith. Point 1 - Faith is trusting and believing in God for what you can’t see*
- Ill – job u don’t qualify for
- A house u don’t know how you’ll afford
- A doctor’s report that says your on your way out / but you know a God who’s on His way in
|
15 | And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God | Nine followed the instructions of the Lord and went towards the priest. Nine were Jews who had grown up under the law and had no problem following that law. |
16 | And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan | But one, knew the law, knew he had to go to the priest, but before he went, he turned around and said, before I go to the priest, I must give thanks to the ONE that healed me. Point 2 – yes, you ought to thank Him in the midst of your sorrw, but how much more should you thank Him when your coming out of that mess! Like the leper, I must give thanks to Him who set me free from this disease. I must turn back, fall on my face and thank this Jesus |
17 | And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? | I can see the disappointment on Jesus’ face and hear the note of sorrow in His voice as He said, where are |
| 18 | There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. | This stranger didn’t grow up in church. Didn’t know when it was time to give an offering, didn’t know where to find the hym in the program. All he knew, was that this man Jesus had given him his life back.* All he knew was that this Jesus had restored his joy
- All he knew was that this Jesus had brought him back from the edge of death
|
| 19 | And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. | Point 3 – Taking God for granted. The sad part of the matter is that the nine * did receive a healing but they never received the healer.
- They did receive a miracle but they never received the miracle worker
- Church, God is in the blessing business and when He blesses, you ought to praise Him, you ought magnify Him, you ought to lift Him up. Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is worthy/ He’s worthy to be praised!!
