Ephesians 5:18 ESVAnd do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

“Not Violent But Gentle”

“Violent” - Literally a striker, ready for a blowFocus on the physical response to adversity.

“Not A Lover of Money”

1 Timothy 6:6–10 ESVBut godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
A lover of money manipulates relationships and resources, mismanages his time and priorities to acquire it.
Proverbs 15:16 NIVBetter a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.
Those who faithfully serve the body of Christ often lack financial abundance and must depend on God’s provision through the generosity of others. But a person who is content with their lot in life does not chase after it, or envy those who have it, but stays focused on God’s purpose for their life (godliness) and works hard at for the glory of God and trust him with the outcome!

“Manage His Own Household Well”

1 Timothy 3:4–5 ESVHe must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?
Common Questions
What does it mean to have children who believe?Do the children have to be old enough to understand the gospel or the doctrine of salvation? At what point is the elder no longer responsible for the faith or lifestyle of the his children?
Titus 1:6 ESVif anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination.
Biblical Cultural Context
Adult children, their wife/husband and children living under same household as their parents.Combine 1 Tim 3:4-5 & Titus 1:6 = Younger children are certainly included but the focus is on Older Children - indicated by the focus on debauchery. An adult child who has made their decision of whether to follow in the teaching of his parents in following the Lord or to follow in the teaching of the culture.
Deception in the Church- christian parents buying the lie of the culture.
Don’t impose your faith on your children, they’ll rebelChildren should be allowed to choose their own path
Managing Your Household Well
Has the boldness of Peter and John in Acts 4:20 and “cannot but speak” of Christ! Joins Joshua in saying “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord”Follows Jesus’ example in loving his wife as Christ loved the churchShepherd’s the heart of his child, not exasperating themObeys the wisdom of God that commands us to teach our children the law of the Lord when we sit, stand, and goTrust the promises of God that ensure us that when we train up a child in the way they should go they will not depart from it. Training/teaching a child in the way they should go is about both proclamation and demonstration. When your child not only hears you recite:
Proverbs 3:5–6 ESVTrust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Psalm 1:1–3 ESVBlessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
… but sees you live it in your priorities:in your commitment to worship and fellowshiphow you approach workin your marriagehow you disciplinehow you play....and sees it’s blessings - what a testimony to the power of Christ in your life!

The most character development and spiritual lessons begin and are tested in the home-marriage and parenting! If you’re not learning and modeling those lessons as a husband and father then you certainly can’t teach them to the church! When we aren’t growing as we should the first place I go is back to is the drawing board of my spiritual leadership of my home!
