Intro

Preaching for the kingdom. Not so long along ago I was given my first opportunity to preach for Narratives, my sermon was titled “intentional living in Christ” last year in September, can you remember that? I can’t believe it i’m coming up one year this month! Thank you so much!
For todays passage i’ll be reading out today is in
Romans 1:8–17 NIV
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you. I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles. I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Theme-
The theme of God’s righteousness is paramount throughout the book.
Unity in Christ is a major theme of Romans.
Chapter four shows how the Old Testament promises to Abraham and David are significant for both since Abraham is the spiritual father of believing Gentiles and Jews.

The Roman Church-
The Roman church probably was a mix of Jews and Gentiles. Paul wanted to communicate to these Christians that the gospel includes everyone.

God’s Word

Unity within the body

Reading this you can see that the Romans here are Jesus believers and that they to along with Paul puts their faith in Christ Jesus.
I know speaking to this audience today, your faith too is “being reported all over the world.”
Interesting here in v.9 Paul uses the word serve.
How many of you guys acknowledge Jesus Christ for the people in your li
In the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the ot), the word latreuō is used to describe Israel’s priestly service to Yahweh (; ). Paul uses this word because he considers the gospel ministry to be equal to Israel’s service to Yahweh. He also uses this term to describe the Gentiles’ service to God (). Compare .

I don’t know about you, but can you see your ministry as a service to God, just as important as Israel’s priestly service to Yahweh?

Priesthood

Definition

A class of individuals responsible for maintaining the integrity of ecclesiastical institutions and performing official rituals of a religion.

Facts:
Romans 1:16 NIV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Romans 2:9–10 NIV
There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Do we as Christian’s even set ourselves apart from non believers today?
It’s hard to tell a believer from a non believer for example I know that some have one foot in the world and the other foot in the church.
In Christ Jesus we are one body. This truth should empower us. We are not ashamed of the gospel, but live to proclaim it. Amen!
Our righteousness comes from God and we can do nothing to earn it.
“Justification by Faith”.
I wonder how often do Christian’s compare themselves to Jews today in the 20th century?
