VBS Sunday 07-29-2018
Intro - Welcome to Maranatha Baptist Fellowship’s VBS Sunday
We are so glad you were able to join us as we celebrate what happened last week, and give you a little taste of what these kids had the opportunity to do this week!
Before I share with you what they learned this week I wanted to share with you some numbers
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
48 kids 50 kids 46 kids 44 kids 46 kids
47 workers 47 workers 53 workers 51 workers 53 workers
95 total 97 total 99 total 95 total 99 total
We had a total of 6 professions of faith and about 3 students have come up and asked about being baptized as well, so I know that is going to be coming up in the near future
We had a great week of loving on and serving these kids and workers, we learned some new things as well
The students had a great week of playing games, and building crafts, and eating unique snacks and have some top notch bible teaching, Church I am so thankful that we have leaders to know and can teach the word of God
This morning I wanted to share with you what the kids have learned all week!
This years Theme verse was
I added verse 4 to and I think after hearing everything they learned you will understand that this week that these are the magnificent promises that as believers in Jesus we can and do partake in
It is the believers who can and will partake in the promises, and we shared those promises this week
On Monday they learned about the Lost Sheep (Jesus Cares About Me)
The story of the Lost Sheep, the Pharisees noticed Jesus not doing the normal Jew thing, Jesus was not doing the religous thing, Jesus was hanging out with tax collectors and sinners
Notice he was hanging out with them and spending time with them, he was not partaking in the same activity
Jesus goes on to explain that a good Shepard would go after the lost sheep and when that sheep is found he would rejoice
Jesus explains that in the same way God will rejoice when the sinner repents and turns to Jesus
The kids learned that Jesus desires a relationship with them, you should know that Jesus desires a relationship with you a very personal and intimate relationship
Jesus also pursues you and I to have that relationship
On Tuesday they learned about the Resurrection of Lazarus (Jesus Gives Me Hope)
Jesus’s friend dies and instead of going to help him or be with him while he is sick, he comes after he dies
He comes after he dies to show the people who he really is
Jesus explains to the people that He is the resurrection and life, that he is the one who can and will be death, that death has no power over, that he is the life giver and there is no life apart from him
It is because of Jesus that you and I have hope today
You may be here today and don’t believe that you have no hope for whatever reason
maybe its a job or a relationship or a money issue or you a struggling and do not see any hope
can I share with you the author of hope himself Jesus Christ, Jesus is the hope that you and I have the resurrection and the life giver
On Wednesday they learned about Thomas believing (Jesus Helps Me Believe)
Thomas is struggling to believe, and maybe for whatever reason you are here today and you are a Thomas
You see Thomas needed to see the scars and holes to believe,
Jesus will come and help you believe
You see in the midst of them being afraid and struggling Jesus appears in their midst and brings about Peace and Hope
Today Jesus will and can bring about peace and hope to your lives
On Thursday they learned about John writing about Jesus (Jesus Loves Me)
Jesus loves you
Maybe for once in your life just quite your mind and heart and listen to this
Jesus Loves You
The empty tomb was to show us that Jesus loves us enough to die and also who He really was the son of God
Jesus Loves You
Jesus’s death on the cross shows us His love for us!
You need to know that Jesus Loves You!!!
On Friday they learned Paul and Silas in Prison (Jesus Gives Me Joy)
Paul and Silas are in jail on account of them sharing the Good News of Jesus
While again it appears they have no hope, that maybe God does not care for them, or even love them,
The question you and I have to ask is why would they believe or continue to believe in Jesus
Paul and Silas continue to believe because Jesus gives them Joy
Joy is not happiness rather Jesus is true Joy
And even in the midst of no hope, and when you don't think God cares or hears from you it is then that Jesus is the joy of your life
All of these are wrapped up in the theme verse of this years GAME ON
Remember I have added the second verse but I believe this week through these lessons and truths your kids have learned that they can be partakers of these amazing promises through a relationship with Christ
It is by learning these promises of Christ that we can become partakers of them through Christ
And when we do that we escape this horrible corrupted world full of death and sadness and hurt
Closing
As we move to a time of invitation I want to make it as simple as I can
If you are here today and do not have a personal relationship with Christ I would invite you to the front and you can talk with someone and they can show you scripture about how to go about having a relationship with Christ
Maybe you need to make another decision of church membership or baptism
or maybe you simply need to spend sometime in prayer
the altar is open
