Have you lost your soul?

Mark 8:34–38 NASB95
34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 “For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
I want to quickly talk about the soul.
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
(Don’t give the title yet)
I want to quickly talk about the soul.
Our souls are eternal. It I the nonmaterial inward part of a man.It is the part of man that cant been with ones eye.
The souls seat one emotion and desires. One thought and reasoning. And house ours all of the senses.
“The soul served as the linking chain, the seat of man's personality, making it possible for man to exist independently. The soul is the consummation of the spirit and the body, the totality of the elements within man.” Watchman

Genesis 2:7 NASB95
7 Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Genesis 2:7 KJV 1900
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

In the Hebrew that that word for soul here is Nephesh meaning breath. The origin of the word come from the root word Naphash which means to breathe or to refresh one self.

See God formed us from the dust of the earth (that is flesh.) But he breathed in us (thats the spirit) and made us a living being or a living soul.
Meaning that God connected our souls to him. His very breath connects to our minds.
1 Corinthians 2:16 NASB95
16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Philippians 2:5–8 NASB95
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
phil 2:
Philippians 2:5 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
that why we have to renew our mind
Romans 12:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
how do we fo that
Ephesians 4:23 NASB95
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
Now understand this when man sinned and God said if you eat of tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt surely die.
Now understand this when man sinned and God said if you eat of tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt surely die.
It was not a physical dead but that act disconnect God breath from their souls. And now mankind was not doing things to please God but doing things please their flesh
It got so bad that in Chapter 6 of Genesis every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
This is pointing to the corruption of man soul.
Now this is what the brother Charles Spurgen says about the soul
“Consider how precious a soul must be, when both God and the devil are after it. You never heard that the devil was after a kingdom, did you? No, he is not so foolish; he knows it would not be worth his winning; he is never after that; but he is always after souls. You never heard that God was seeking after a crown, did you! No, he thinketh little of dominions; but he is after souls every day; his Holy Spirit is seeking his children; and Christ came to save souls. Do you think that which hell craves for, and that which God seeks for, is not precious?”
Stephan Charnock says that the son the greatest glory of this lower world.
No wonder the devil want it. He know the great value that the lord has placed upon it. That Chris would leave heaven and pay the price for it not with money; silver and gold but with his blood.
I would live to raise the theological question to you today. Is it possible for one to lose his soul while his is still alive?
Look at some one and ask them have you lost our soul.
So there is a great struggle in your member, to follow after the spirit or to follow after the flesh.
Romans 7:6 NASB95
6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.
Ro
now lets look at romans 7: 17-24
This is what Paul talks about in Roman 7: 17-24
paul is talking about a life under the law Not under the spirit!
very important to understand this is not NORMAL CHRISTIANITY
romans 7: 17-24
Romans 7:17–24 NASB95
17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me;
But in verse 25 he makes a powerful declaration
Romans 7:25 NASB95
25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God.
Paul here give us hope thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord
Romans 8:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Romans 8:1 NASB95
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Amen somebody
noctice the spirit
Romans 8:4 NASB95
4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:4 tell us to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
tell us to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
why ?
because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Following after the spirit bring forth life
Following after the spirit bring forth life
Following the flesh bring forth sin and death.
Jesus in the text tells the people who where with him if you really want to follow him you must first deny yourself.
self denial is not, and cant be accomplished without his help
I wonder if there is any body in this house that wants to follow Jesus.
You cant serve two master
You cant serve two master
You cant serve God and your flesh.
You are going to have to learn to tell your flesh no.
I want to sin. But more than I want to sin I want to follow Jesus.
Romans 8:6 NASB95
6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
So no no I not coming over your house this late.
No no I not gone smoke with you no more.
No no I am not going to steal no more.
No no I am not going to get drunk with you.
I need to follow Jesus. My soul long after him
Psalm 42:1 NASB95
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God.
Psalm 42:1–2 NASB95
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?
ps
See many time we say I got to have it. I got to have her, I got to smoke it, I got to please my flesh.
As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When you come to the revelation that my life is not my own but Jesus and I trust him with my whole life. I trust him with my soul. He has paid the price for my soul.
So in losing it. I lose control and give it all to Jesus.
See many time we say I got to have it. I got to have her, I got to smoke it, I got to please my flesh.
And we don’t even realize that we are losing our soul.
I feel the Holy Ghost.
Then Jesus ask the question what good is it gain the world and lose your soul.
You may find pleasure in continuing in you sin but it means nothing if you have lost your soul.
You may have money, but it means nothing if you have lost your soul.
You may have all the women but it means nothing if you have lost your soul.
Have you lost your soul?
When you walk after your flesh it disconnect you from God.
And like Adam and eve you become the waling dead.
Have you lost your soul?
I know you look good, I know your wealthy, I know your talented?
But have you lost your soul?
Is sin worth losing your soul?
Stand to your feet
God want to free us from the control of sin and make us controlled by his righteousness.
God want to connect our soul with his again. He wants to breathe and refresh us once again.
John 20:21–22 NASB95
21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
)
This is the same breath that God breath on man to make them a living soul.
If you need a refreshing. The lord will breath on you today.
Have you lost our soul? Are you the walking dead?
