SAVED AND STUBBORN
SAVED AND STUBBORN
Intro:
Identity - who you are and what you’ve been created to do
Stubbornness is a form of PRIDE.
Pride is formed through ones perspective.
Weather through a psychological or sociological lens, a person develops their world view
If that world view is made outside of the Word of God, pride is the only option & pride manifest through stubbornness
There is a difference between judgement and measurement (correction)
Judgement = verdict about who you are
Measurement = adjustments
**Jacket example…the measurements don’t fit…you can’t wear what you want **
Stubbornness will make you keep wearing something, just so others won’t know they’re right
Pride would rather have you FEELING right than being well
(Another word for Stubborn) Stiff-neck: animals/person making it difficult to be yoked to a cause
Yoke: An instrument made from bent wood that was placed around the necks of animals or persons. A mark of slavery; often used for animals, but more prominently used in biblical literature for humans. Used metaphorically to refer to the responsibilities of slaves.
“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.”

Heavy Yoke - connected to something detrimental
Bad Yoke - connected to something detrimental
jon
Easy Yoke -
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
(Another word for Stubborn) Hardness of Heart:
The Bible frequently describes hardness (or its equivalents) as occurring within the heart of an individual. The heart generally refers to the moral center of the human personality from which flow thoughts, emotions, actions, and speech (; ). It “encompasses all dimensions of human existence”. It is “the richest biblical term for the totality of man’s inner or immaterial nature [for] it is the most frequently used term for man’s immaterial personality … as well as the most inclusive term … since … virtually every immaterial function of man is attributed to the ‘heart’. In response to God’s message, the human heart can either be tender (, ), or dull ().
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
So stubbornness is after the heart and neck!!!
Stubbornness restricts your flow
Stubbornness restricts range of vision

(CHAPTER 1) ARISE
(CHAPTER 1) ARISE
God’s Perspective: Embedded in your DNA is a skill set, infused in your nature that is customized for WHERE I’m (God) sending you and to WHO I’m sending you to
GOD - “I’M telling you to ARISE and GO because I know who you are and your capabilities”
But Jonah is STUBBORN
v.3 - You’ll always pay more for doing things your way
v.4 - The Lord sent the storm to the stubborn
When you’re stubborn, God will break up every relationship birthed in rebellion
v.5-6 - Everything Jonah was connected to gets thrown over UNTIL the SINNER GIVES THE SAME WORD AS THE SAVIOR…ARISE!!!
WHEN CONNECTED TO THE STUBBORN, AND A STORM STARTS, YOU’LL GET RID OF YOUR VICTORIES INSTEAD OF THE VIGILANTE
**VIGILANTE - BATMAN…A STUBBORN MAN WHO TAKES THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS**
v.8 - IDENTITY…who are you Jonah (READ THIS VERSE)
Then they said to him, “Please tell us! For whose cause is this trouble upon us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?”
JON
THEY’RE SAYING “YOU’RE AMNESIA IS ABOUT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT”
So he said to them, “I am a Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”
HE KNOWS WHO HE IS…I ADMIT IT!!!
I ADMIT IT - IM A WORSHIPPER ...
And he said to them, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that this great tempest is because of me.”
v.12
Some times it looks safer where you are. DON’T SIT, IT’S SAFER TO SWIM!!!!!!!
***THERE IS NO HARVEST IN HESITATION****
Jonah’s sinning friends get saved when the saint leaves!!!
There’s no guarantee that you’ll get to see the breakthrough of those in the boat with you.
God is waiting to bless someone but he can’t until they get rid of you
If you can’t swim, He’ll send something to swallow you!!! YOU WON’T DROWN!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(CHAPTER 2) ACKNOWLEDGE
(CHAPTER 2) ACKNOWLEDGE
It’s in the swallowing where God surrounds you.
God will limit your options to provide opportunities
Jonah found his future in the fish
But I will sacrifice to You
With the voice of thanksgiving;
I will pay what I have vowed.
Salvation is of the Lord.”
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: I KNOW MY IDENTITY AND I’LL LIVE UP TO IT
God used what swallowed Jonah to save him time.
Vomit: Jonah isn’t fish food…he made what swallowed him sick
***GOD’S RESPONSE TO REPENTANCE IS PLACEMENT***

(CHAPTER 3) ACCELERATE
(CHAPTER 3) ACCELERATE
v.3-6 WHAT SHOULD’VE TAKEN 3 DAYS, WAS ACCOMPLISHED IN 1
Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.
1 man in his identity brought deliverance to an entire city

(CHAPTER 4) ACCEPTANCE
(CHAPTER 4) ACCEPTANCE
God’s acceptance of Nineveh’s repentance caused Jonah to complain (4:1–3). His recently uttered psalm of prayerful praise to God (2:1–9) now turned to bitter grumbling. Jonah prayed again to God (4:2), revealing his reason for refusing to obey the first commission. He had personal knowledge of God’s loving and forgiving nature, and resented that love and forgiveness being extended to the enemies of his country.
In foolish abandon Jonah asked to die (STUBBORN) rather than to see God’s work among the Ninevites (4:3).

He should’ve been rejoicing not regretting
v.4-5 Jonah preached but he didn’t want to see prosperity in the city
