27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Paul’s desire was to visit them. But, regardless of weather he did or not, he wanted them to stand fast in the faith.
a. To keep the unity of the love of God.
b. To strive together against the adversaries of the gospel.
c. What Paul wanted them to do, is what he was doing. Ealb
And wanted a good report that they were doing the same.
d. Paul was a good soldier for Jesus. That is what are, but it is not an easy task.
e. We are to fight the good fight, that means to declare war on the enemies of the gospel.
f. We are to be sowers of the seed. The fields are white unto harvest, and the workers are few.
g. The enemy will do all he can to prevent us from all the things.
2. We are not only to “stand fast” we all also to be “Striving”
a. Pressing on, always moving forward in our battle against the enemy. Repenting the harvest.
“with one mind striving together”
a. The church therefore must stand fast, striving in oneness of mind and spirit.
b. Paul was in one place in a battle field, and the Philippians were in another place in a battle field.
c. But the fighting the same enemy. And had the same Commander in chief.
3. All believers are in the same army. Wear the same spiritual armor. And must all work in unity.
a. We all fight the same spiritual battle.
John
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

This verse in Jesus praying to the Father for us, to carry on the work He left for us.
22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.
28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
Philippians
28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.
“in nothing terrified by your adversaries”
Terrified: means “scared”. NASB “alarmed”
Our adversary in the devil.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Paul was in consent battle. Just think of all he did, started so many churches. Help so many new believers. Etc.....
a. Paul in VS 28 is encountering the believers in Philip to stand and steadfastly resist the devil.
b. When you can do this, that is the mark of a strong believer.
“Which is to them (the adversaries) an evident token of perdition”
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
a. We cannot over come the devil on our own, only through the power of Jesus.
29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
Philippians 1:29
29 For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
? Should it be a joy to suffer for someone you love?
a. Jesus suffered for us, and we can share in His suffering.
b. The suffering Paul is talking about here is suffering for the sake of righteousness.
c. We should rejoice in it.
30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
30 experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
This verse is at continuing of VS 29.
“Same conflict” is speaking of the suffering Paul had gone through in Philippe.
a. Paul had every right to be heard on the question of persecution.
b. Many of them there knew what Paul was talking about.
c. Maybe the jailer was there when the letter was red. He could testify of what had happened, and they he and his family were saved due to Paul’s suffering.
d. Paul was still suffering persecution while he was writing this letter.
