We are at battle. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with no time off. Paul understands this and had the same struggles that we have. If we are committed to serving Christ, there are things that we simply cannot do. Just like a high school senior who plans to enlist in military service, he/she has a different set of principles to live by. To be their best, daily exercise and making healthy eating choices are among the top of the list of things they should be doing to ready themselves. There are also obvious things they should NOT do. We should expect the same thing with our higher calling - there are things we MUST and MUST NOT do to accomplish our goal of earning eternal life.
