The second section – The Historical books, 12 books. In that section of the Old Testament that spans from Joshua to Esther
The second section – The Historical books, 12 books. In that section of the Old Testament that spans from Joshua to Esther, it’s the Divinely inspired historical
narrative. And in them –
we see Israel in the land; we see Israel removed from the land; we see Israel returned to the land of promise.
The third section – The Poetic books – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, The Song Of Solomon – none of them advancing the historical narrative, but – nestled in it, speaking to it

The writings of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel – they’re called the Major Prophets, simply because of the size of their writings. The Old Testament was penned on scrolls. The writings of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel were so large that they could only put one prophet on a scroll. And by contrast the 12 Minor Prophets, which begin with the book that we’re looking at tonight, Hosea, they could fit on a single roll as a collection

Who’s Hosea?
And by contrast the 12 Minor Prophets, which begin with the book that we’re looking at tonight, Hosea, they could fit on a single roll as a collection.
Hosea the prophet, was the son of a guy Beeri, At God’s instruction, Hosea married a harlot named Gomer. Their marriage later came to symbolize God’s relationship with Israel, as Hosea was troubled by her constant infidelity. The book of Hosea is the first of the Minor Prophets, a title that simply refers to the length of the books, not their significance

Hosea was born in the northern kingdom of Israel toward the end of the reign of King Jeroboam II (793–753 BC). He grew up and ministered under the rule of several other kings of Israel (Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekah, Pekahiah, and Hoshea). Jeroboam II’s rule was one of political and economic prosperity, but the underlying spiritual decay in the nation eventually became manifested during the reigns of his successors. These kings brought with them political unrest and spiritual chaos, culminating in the Assyrian captivity of Israel in 722 BC. Many Jews turned to the idolatry and other practices of the Assyrian religion, further rebelling against the Lord.
