You and I have personal needs: unsaved, health, relationships, finances, jobs, etc...
You and I want to see Hope Church explode with the glory of God.
We are the light of Jesus to a darkened world, how we experience pain and need should be noticeably different.
“It is the most bitter of all afflictions to be led to fear that there is no help for us in God.” --Charles Haddon Spurgeon
David wrote the psalm after he had fled Jerusalem when his son Absalom took over the throne ().
The king and his attendants had crossed the Jordan River and camped at Mahanaim.

Conflict: He Admits His Troubles (vv. 1–2)

Psalm 3:1–2 NIV
Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.”
First, when there is conflict we must admit to it, not run or gloss over or minimize it.
“This is an issue, and I need to deal with it.”
“This is an issue, and I need to deal with it.”
David teaches us to pray immediately with great urgency.
David teaches us to pray immediately with great urgency.
The prayer begins very abruptly with “Lord.”
* David didn’t have time to go through a long liturgy.
We do not ignore our problems, we take them head on with God's power!
Admitting we are powerless is a necessary step towards victory.
If we believe we can make it on our own we will not call on the Spirit of God for help
This is also the first prayer in the Psalms, and the first psalm attributed to David.
Personal Issues
Church growth-Not by might nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord of Hosts.
Notice in v. 1 the prayer begins very abruptly with “Lord.”

We do not ignore our problems, we take them head on with God's power!

Confidence: He Affirms His Trust in the Lord (vv. 3–4)

Psalm 3:3–4 NIV
But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.
p
David knew he was in danger, he also knew God was his shield.
*
* David knew he was in danger, he also knew God was his shield.
The word "shield" in the original signifies more than a shield; it means a protection which surrounds us entirely, a shield above, beneath, around, without and within. Oh! what a shield is God for his people!
The word "shield" in the original signifies more than a shield; it means a buckler round about, a protection which shall surround a man entirely, a shield above, beneath, around, without and within. Oh! what a shield is God for his people!
He wards off the fiery darts of Satan from beneath, and the storms of trials from above, while at the same moment, he speaks peace to the raging tempests in our mind and heart.
* He wards off the fiery darts of Satan from beneath, and the storms of trials from above, while, at the same instant, he speaks peace to the tempest within the breast.-Spurgeon
David may have been forced off his throne, but God is still on His!

You and I may be without power, but God's power never wanes.
You and I may be without power, but God's power never wanes.
Problems are out of our control.
We cannot cause salvation.
We cannot make our church grow.
But we worship the same God David does.
He is the same now as He was in every Bible story you know.

Celebration: He Anticipates the Victory (vv. 5–8)

Psalm 3:5–8 NIV
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
David awoke the next morning rested.

David’s faith enabled him to lie down; anxiety would certainly have kept him on tiptoe, watching for an enemy

This is the first Psalm of lament.
If we trust Him and seek to do His will, God works on our behalf even while we’re asleep.
* God never sleeps (), so why should you stay awake and worry?

Psalm 121:3 NIV
He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
