Last week -

Last week

This is the truth - by our faith that we are being saved - seems foolish to some
Dream of persecution - will you stand?
Foundations - recurring series to reinforce our foundations
Firstly we have already been taught that we believe that the bible is the infallible and all sufficient rule for our faith - more reliable than historic accounts of julias ceaser, more evidence than any other historical documentation and the inspired word of God - go back listen to it - credible evidence.
Already have an understanding on the one true and living God co existing in three persons Father son and holy spirit - go back listen - on those foundations we continue - with Jesus
Jesus the greatest missionary with the greatest mission not mission impossible
The redemption plan for all mankind, to be restored in their relationship back to God
God preached the first gospel message to Adam and Eve after their mistrust of god led to sin entering the world, He promised Jesus would come. From that day on God inspired prophets, to reveal in great detail the events surrounding the coming of Jesus and for roughly a few thousand years Gods people longed for Jesus arrival...
STATEMENT of faith
Virgin Birth
Virgin Birth
So Jesus came into history, the world the most humble manner, roughly two thousand years ago in a barn to a poor, young virgin named Mary. Crazy wisdom to us, God wisdom
Theologians use the word incarnation - latin translation literally meaning becoming flesh as shorthand to describe or explain the coming of second member of the trinity the son/the word into human history as the man Jesus Christ.
John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
Incarnation is taken from the latin translation of and literally means becoming flesh.
This is important to note that incarnation is not a man becoming God ‘serpent lies in garden of eden “you can be like God”and unlike other religions, new ageism, mormonism teach we can be gods, incarnation is the opposite… God became man
back to John the word was always from the beginning the eternal son of God became the God man Jesus Christ.
incarnation is not a borrowed idea from pagan mythology - same speculate incarnation idea stolen from greek myths zeus however this pagan mythology came after the prophey of isaiah,
Also myths seak of Gods having sex wit women even the mormon teaching is of God having physical sexual relations with mary which is horrendously incorrect
How did He come - importance of virgin birth - not from man - The eternal son of God being born of a woman - miracluous pure is anything too wonderful for God? Mary trusted God more than what her eyes could see.
foretold in
Isaiah 7:14 ESV
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Immanuel - God with us
full account in Matthew and Lukes gospels ..
The Bible reveals the birth of Jesus as a pattern for our new birth - born again - both are miracles of God the Holy Spirit to be received by faith. This is a foundational belief
The virgin birth was prophesied though Isaiah, biblical scholars James Or and Rendal Harris testify though extensive study and research of this foundational belief that Mary was a virgin,
afyermuch study… Ignatius church father trained by the disciple John testified to the virginity of Mary and J Gresham Machen summarised the evidence for the fact by saying
“There is good ground, we think, to hold the reason why the Christian church came to believe in the birth of Jesus without a human father was simply that He was a matter of fact so born”
Sinless life & Miraculous Ministry
I grew up singing the creed page 8 in the prayer book - i believe… sadly all major creeds during early church ignore Jesus life between birth and death, declare Jesus was born of a virgin, straight to suffered under pilot crucified dead and buried..
Jesus grew from infancy to adulthood had family, friends, ate, loved him mum, played, got hurt, went tot he toilet, experience full range of emotion, experienced same kind of trials / temptations as we face.. yet he was without sin Jesus said it
John 8:46 ESV
Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
John 8:46
Hebrews 4:14–16 ESV
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:
1 Peter 1:19 ESV
but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
1 Peter
Jesus Christ birth from a virgin gave us a sinless saviour, due to His Holy conception. The difference being children are born into this world innocent but none are sinless, and our defects soon start to show themselves as we start to grow and we become good at sinning
Childhood innocence is often misinterpreted as sinlessness but all it is is under developed sinfulness we are born of flesh, man. Christ on the other hand was and is the only child born sinless his holy conception guarantees his sinlessness and his sinlessness guarantees our perfect salvation, the bible backs this up
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21
Miraculous Ministry
Yet the gospels are filled with evidence of over 40 miracles that Jesus Performed revealing His divine authority over creation as the creator… over sickness, nature, demons and death
Opponents of Jesus outside of scripture also testify to his miracles. The Jewish Telmud charged that Jesus “practised magic”, Celsus a strong opponent of Christianity later repeated that claim, and the more famous Jewish historian Josephus also reported that Jesus was a “doer of wonderful works”
Authority over sickness, nature, demons and death
In Jesus speaks of these works:
John 10:36–39 ESV
do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.
john goes on to explin the most important reason for the miracles
John 20:30–31 ESV
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
the evidence reveals that Jesus was and is God or as says perfectly “in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily”
Substitutionary Atoning Death and Bodily Resurrection ultimate rescue
seriously so much here!!!
Mission accomplished :Jesus accomplished His mission by dying on the cross, in our place, for our sins
theological wording:
Substitutionary: should have been me - he took our place - our sub
Bodily Resurrection
Atoning Death - Atonement is the reconciliation of God and humans brought about by the redeeming life and death of Jesus
this is what Jesus Did:he died on the cross in our place
The cross was horrific: Josephus called crucifixion “the most wretched of deaths”
how is it good news?
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 ESV
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
1 corinthians 15
the most clear summary of the good news gospel message in this tiny bit of scripture Paul makes the death, burial and the Resurrection of Jesus as the most important event in all of history and proves or verifies the truthfulness of what the bible says.
He explain is why it is good news with the the simple word “for”
for our sins + “for the benefit of” or “because of” our sin
Not “benefit of” our sins - he didn’t help them at all
Because of our sin - our sin but his death from genesis to revelation the penalty, payment of sin is death
so if we sin we should die
Good news is Jesus then is that without sin or benefit to himself, Jesus substituted us for himself took or place for our benefit
so many facets to the act of Jesus dying in our place - takes our punishment - justifies us we have new status - Mark Driscoll
“the gifted of righteousness of Jesus is imparted to us at the time of faith, simultaneous with our justification. Not only does God give us family status, but he also gives us new power and a new heart through the indwelling Holy spirit. This is what theologians call regeneration. Therefore we not only have new status by virtue of being justified we also have a new heart from which new desires for holiness flow and a new power through God the Holy Spirit to like like, for and with Jesus”
he was our ransom and redemption.
He did die - study into reality of what was involved, doctors and historians account, professional executioners -
Jesus is alive - This is Resurrection not resuscitation or revivification come back to life to die again...
resurrection is when someone dies and returns to physical life forever, bible calls eternal life..
because Jesus death is a historical fact the evidence testimony from not just eye witnesses but Roman Greek and Jewish historians Josephus, Suetonius, Pliny the younger, also back up the fact that Jesus died and was resurrected appearing to his followers fully alive simply by telling the facts without any religious bias to them
if Jesus is dead, then christinity is dead. If jesus is alive, then christianity is alive . Paul himself says it
1 Corinthians 15:17 ESV
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
1 Corinthians 15:
Triumphant Ascension Abiding intercession and Personal bodily return
Jesus is alive and ascended into heaven he went back it was visible noted and witnessed in Luke and Acts
Abiding intercession
It proves his kingship
Ephesians 4:9–10 ESV
(In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)
-
and was necessary for The third person of the trinity Holy spirit to come.
as He is in Heaven He is able to save completely those who come to God though Him because He always lives to intercede for them. for you…
Personal bodily return
Jesus sits at the right hand of God in the seat of honour and authority and it is from this seat that He intercedes for and on our behalf. He is our forever champion
And He is coming again
Jesus God Coming down to earth as a baby, has been described as the greatest act in history, BUT HE IS COMING AGAIN
and this has been mentioned 8 times as much in the New Testament
Predicted by Christ
John 14:3 ESV
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
predicted by angels
Acts 1:11 ESV
and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
Predicted by the Apostles
Acts 3:20–21 ESV
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
This is our Our Hope our good news our truth and our foundations
Jesus story book bible paraphrase
Jesus story book bible paraphrase
John 1:12–13 ESV
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
for anyone who says yes to Jesus
:12-
for anyone who believes what Jesus said
for anyone who will just reach out and take it
then God will give them this wonderful gift
to be born into a whole new life,
to be who they really are
who God always made them to be
their own true selves
Gods dear child
the most wonderful thing about this store is its your story too.
