The Presence of The Holy Spirit
The Presence of The Holy Spirit
How many of you know who the Holy Spirit is?
Many times we relegate the Holy Spirit to a lesser role than the Father or Jesus.
Many books are written about the Father and Jesus but very few are written about the Holy Spirit.
If we understood who He is and what He does maybe we would think twice before leaving him on the bench.
For no prophecy at any time was produced by the will of man, but holy men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
The scriptures that you read from are from the Holy Spirit speaking into the writers the Word
Here is what Jesus said
“If you love me, obey my commandments.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.
He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
“But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness of Me.
He is an Comforter, Counselor, Advocate, Helper.
He is the Spirit of Truth
And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
He is wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and fear of the Lord.
The Holy Spirit is so important that Jesus said it was a good thing that He leave this earth so that the Holy Spirit will be here instead.
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.
Jesus left and sent the Spirit instead.
He is the one that convicts the world of sin.
And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
He is a guarantee of everything that was promised to us.
and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.
God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.
And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
He is the guide to believers
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
He indwells Believers
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,
He is an intercessor
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
He is the Spirit of Life
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.
This tells us that he is a teacher
God also bore them witness with signs and wonders and diverse miracles and with gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His own will.
He is a witness to salvation that came through Jesus shed blood.
That is why Jesus said in
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit is paramount in our Christian walk.
We can not discount who He is.
Many, if not most, Christians don’t even know who He is.
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
When was the last time you had true freedom?
In a Spirit filled church we erroneously attribute the presence of the Holy Spirit with music.
Don’t get me wrong, music is great but you do not have to have music to be in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
There are people here today that your Christian walk is like walking in knee deep mud. You struggle every day to just make it.
You may be dealing with
depression
dependency
Fear. Your afraid you are going to mess up. That you are not going to please God. You live in fear that temptation is going to overcome you.
The Holy Spirit is not a feeling, He is a person. He is part of the Trinity. He is as real as Jesus and Father God.
He is more real than the chair you are sitting in.
When the music fades, when the feeling fades, when you are all alone and the world is falling apart around you The Holy Spirit is still there.
When was the last time you talked to him. When was the last time you asked him for help?
Connies story.
