Supporting idea:

God’s grace and peace in a person’s life come from knowing the power of the gospel

v.1: Paul, the author of the letter to the Colossians, identifies himself as an apostle, one who is sent as a commissioned and empowered representative of Jesus Christ. Paul is not an apostle because of any personal gains but his title came to him by the will of God.

v.2: Paul gives them a three-fold identification.

He calls them holy.
This means the Colossians believers, are “set apart”.
To be set apart means that God has His hand on you for a specific purpose.
He calls them faithful.
Paul commends the Colossians for the steadfast commitment to the gospel.
To be steadfast and unmovable is to be spiritually grounded.
He calls them one spiritual family.
He calls them on spiritual not based on race, differences in background or any other purely human considerations.
Paul calls them on spiritual family because they all belong to Jesus Christ.

In conclusion of Paul’s greeting of grace and peace was the standard of just saying “hello”. Paul wanted the Colossian people to appreciate these two blessings which are good gifts from God.
