Disgusting Meals
Disgusting Meals
The eating habits of the various cultures of the world offer rich and varied styles. Saying no two are alike is stating the obvious. The wealth and prosperity of Western culture has stripped away the need to include many of the parts of the animal or fish. However, other cultures have preserved these dishes making use of all the vital organs of any species. Some of them rich in dietary nutrients but disgusting to the American palate. Lets consider a few...
Carsu Marsu is perhaps the grossest. The preparation begins with a rather innocent process. The chef will heat sheep’s milk until it almost boils, then lets it cure for three weeks. A crust is formed over the cheese which must be removed. The block is then placed in the open air to allow flies to lay their eggs. As the larvae eat the rotting cheese, it passes through their bodies and is excreted. This gives the cheese a distinct flavor and texture. The sale of the cheese has been banned in several countries.
If you like eggs with your cheese, you could try soft boiled fetal duck called Balut. The secret is to take fertilized duck eggs, incubate them for a few weeks. After boiling the egg for 3-5 minutes you crack it open and enjoy the soft-boiled egg and the small fetal duckling. Slurping it right from the shell is the recommended way of enjoying such a fine delicacy.

Another fine ethnic cuisine is jellied moose nose. The name is a tad deceiving. You are not making jelly to spread on toast. After all the cooking is done and the cartilage and bones are removed, two kinds of meat remain. White meat from the bulb of the nose and then strips of dark meat from along the bones and jowls. This meet is thinly sliced placed in a loaf pan. The broth is reheated to boiling then poured over the meat. The meat is then place in a cold spot until the broth becomes jellied.
Now as disgusting as these meals are to us, Jesus admonition to eat his flesh and drink his blood were to the Jews of his day.
