v. 22-23- “He made the disciples”- Jesus knew what was going to happen. It was to test them and to grow their faith. Nothing comes as a surprise to Jesus.
v. 24- “some distance”- likely 3-4 miles. Lake was 4-5 miles wide.
v. 25-26- fear of the disciples. Fear of storm, fear of Jesus being a ghost.
APPLICATION QUESTION 1
Jesus made them get into boat. Jesus had led them to this. They had been obedient.
The New American Commentary: Matthew 2. The Polarization Enacted: From Jew to Gentile (13:53–16:20)

“If it is a result of obedience to Christ’s command that the church or the individual Christian is in a situation of danger or distress, then there is no need to fear.”

APPLICATION QUESTION 2
v. 27- “It is I” more literally reads “I am” or “I am he.” An echo of Jesus being God.
APPLICATION QUESTION 3
v. 28- “If it’s you...” closely resemebles “Since it’s you...”
Doesn’t say, but wonder what Peter’s motive was?
v. 29- “Come.”
APPLICATION QUESTION 4
v. 29-30- climax is not Jesus walking on the water but Peter’s failure.
