As a parent, we try to teach our children right from wrong. We try and give a good education and we worry about them from the day they are born until either we are gone from this world or they are. They are many things that a parent worries about and never wants to hear. The call into the principal's office or the call into the doctor's office to discuss options because of a diagnosis or that 2 AM knock on the door from the police.
But what about when your child comes to you and informs you that they are a homosexual. Many parents are not ready for this discussion and how you react will determine your relationship with your child.

First off we need realize that the world is teaching something completely different than what we try to teach them.

Same Sex attraction is normal

Sex is not determined by birth or plumbing but what you feel you are

Love is love, and as long as you love something you are honoring God.

2nd we need to see what is God’s plan:

Sexual relations between people of the same sex. The biblical emphasis upon the loving union of male and female, as an integral part of God’s creation ordinance, establishes the context against which the censure of homosexual practice is to be set.

God’s creation order for sexuality

;
Genesis 1:27–28 ESV
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 2:18–24 ESV
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Both Jesus Christ endorsed the creation order:

Mark 10:6–9 ESV
But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

OT prohibitions of homosexual practice

Leviticus 18:22 ESV
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
See also
Leviticus 20:13 ESV
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Homosexual practice is incompatible with the kingdom of God

In some translations The meanings of the Greek words for “male prostitutes” and “homosexual offenders” are disputed, but the terms are commonly associated with particular forms of homosexual behaviour.
1 Corinthians 6:9–10 ESV
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Timothy 1:9–11 ESV
understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

Sexual disorder is one consequence of rejecting God

Jesus Christ taught on defilement and Homosexuality

Even though many want to deny the fact Jesus did speak and teach on all sexual sin.
Mark 7:20–23 ESV
And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
(ESV) - And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him.
For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

Paul believes in exactly what Jesus taught

Ephesians 5:31 ESV
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
Ephesians
Romans 1:21–27 ESV
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Homosexuality associated with pagan religious beliefs and practices:

; ;
Even though many want to deny the fact Jesus did speak and teach on all sexual sin.
(ESV) - And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

In Sodom and Gomorrah:

How do we react

;
Proverbially cat is out of the bag how should we react to this news? Your actions will determine the relationship you have with your child and “IF” you will have influence in their life anymore. Realize a few things:
in Israel in a time of moral decadence

Jesus ate with sinners

We see this in all three gospels in several places
Matthew 9:9–13 ESV
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
We may not agree with our kids decision and truthfully this probably is not the first time. We need to look at how Christ handled Himself to get a good idea on our reaction. Jesus went to the sinners, He sought them out and never rejected them or an opportunity to spend time with them. Jesus transcended the cultural norm by being in those places.
Think about something, why was the world able to convince your child of the decision that they have now informed you of. The world seeks the outcast, the shunned and the forgotten. The religious figures during and before Jesus time did the same thing. They pushed the downtrodden, the sick and the deplorable away. Do not take the same path the self proclaimed righteous take by thinking you are better than others. Do not think that because of their sin, you can not spend time with them. We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.
Do you dispose or push your child away because they tell you a lie? Do you forbid any family member from seeing another because a child came home drunk one night? We can’t not put more emphasis on one sin than another.

Doesn’t mean condone it, Be a light

tells us that Jesus came to seek and save the lost, not to drive them away.
Matthew 5:14–16 ESV
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Mat
We don’t have to condone their sin, any sin. But we have to maintain some type of a relationship if we want to have influence in their lives. How can we glorify God if we are acting like pharisees? We have to be the ones that shines a light on the road to the great physician.
Mark 2:17 ESV
And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Do not Conform

Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
shows that we naturally conform to the world. That’s how people fall for the false teaching because our flesh is sinful and the false teaching fits our desires. For this exact reason, we can’t shun our children but keep the relationship open. So that God can use your light to transform your child.
If we continue a relationship in their lives, we have an opportunity for them to keep seeing a positive influence. This relationship should be a clear gospel message and road that does not produce a bump in their walk.

Love Unconditionally

The greatest commandment is Love the God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. I’m not saying that love is love and all love is ok. But that love does heal, God’s love can heal any sin that we have committed.
We must continue to show God’s love to our kids no matter what they have done. we have to break down the wall that the world builds in their dark place and shine the light of the gospel there. But that is only possible if we have a relationship. But this is not going to be easy, and I know that there is no way that I could handle this without the Love of Christ and the strength that God gives us. How do we get this strength?

Pray again, and again, and again.
