THE QUICKENING OF THE SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit Keep working in You . and what of his work is to QUICKENING .. The source of life .
One of the most powerful truths in the Word of God is found in
where Jesus says, “It is the Spirit that quickens, the flesh profits nothing.”
The Christian life was never meant to be lived in our own effort and strength! As a matter of fact, it is impossible to enjoy an overcoming, victorious Christian life without the help of the Holy Spirit.
In the Apostle Paul reveals an amazing reality when he declares, “For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) dwells no good thing.”
You see, God rejects our flesh (). When I say “the flesh”, I am referring to our self effort; those things that we can accomplish in our own strength or intellect apart from relying on God’s help.
That is what the Scripture means by “the flesh”. I have discovered an amazing truth that I would like to share with you today. GOD IS NOT LOOKING FOR YOUR ABILITY. HE IS LOOKING FOR YOUR SURRENDER! It is not your talent, intellect or effort that God needs. The only thing that He needs is your surrender. I think that this is one of the hardest truths to get across to people. There is something in man that wants to do it all by himself! It must be because we want the credit! . God prepare me a santuary
We must remember the words of Jesus in , “apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Only when we come to the realization that there can be no lasting victory in our own effort, that we must have the presence, power and person of the Holy Spirit working through us, can we begin to enjoy the abundant life that Jesus promised.
In Jesus declares, “It is the Spirit that quickens…” Now let’s take a closer look at what this means.
The word “quicken” in the Scriptures means to vitalize, to make alive, or give life. The quickening spirit” is primarily a phrase found in the King James translation of the Bible and translations based on it. . Most translations translatIons translate it as “life-giving spirit”. The King James elsewhere uses the phrase “he will quicken the dead” which seems to mean to give life to the dead. So “quickening spirit” seems to mean “life-givinig spirit”.
The word we shall consider in this study is the word “quicken” (or ”quickening”). It means “to give life and to preserve life” and ”to be made alive”. This covers our basic needs, because we need to receive life and to be preserved by life; we need to receive life initially, which takes place at the time of conversion, but we also need to be preserved by life continually, which refers to God’s work of sanctification From the scriptures we learn two things:-
In other words, left to ourselves without the help of the Holy Spirit, all of our strength, effort and intellect can produce nothing but death and defeat. We are dead without the presence and power of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. Simply put, WE CAN DO NOTHING that counts for eternity without the power of the Holy Spirit working through us.
The Scriptures reveal 7 areas that the Holy Spirit quickens us.
#1 SALVATION “For as the Father raises up the dead and quickens them, even so the Son quickens whom He will.” The new birth is the result of the quickening power of the Holy Spirit.
It is the Spirit working within us that causes us to know God as our Heavenly Father ().
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
Without the power of the Holy Spirit working in a person, they cannot be saved! No amount of religion or morality can save you.
One must be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit.
#2 PRAYER
declares, “quicken us and we will call upon Thy name.” True prayer is impossible without the help of the Holy Spirit. Each day, before I attempt to go into prayer, I first ask the Holy Spirit to quicken me. Without the Holy Spirit empowering me to pray, I am simply praying out of religious duty to satisfy my guilt. But when the Spirit’s presence comes upon me, only then do I really begin to fellowship with God
(). Oh, if we could only learn this secret to prayer! Then prayer would no longer be a “chore”, but a joy!
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
#3 UNDERSTAND GOD’S WORD
says, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy Word.” We cannot understand the Word of God Word with our intellect; we must have the help of the Holy Spirit.
Herein is the reason why we have so much false doctrine in the Body of Christ. tells us that heresy is a work of the FLESH. The flesh cannot properly interpret the Bible without the help of the Holy Spirit, Who is our Teacher. This is why two people can read the Word of God and one comes away believing it is God’s will to heal all, and another comes away believing that healing is not for everyone.
tells us that there can only be ONE meaning from any Scripture. So how do we find the correct meaning?
In Paul calls the Holy Spirit, “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.” Unless the Spirit reveals the meaning of the Scripture to your heart, you cannot know it.
#4 FREEDOM FROM SIN
In Paul writes, “walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” The Holy Spirit, not our will power, is the secret to victory over sin! The Bible tells us that Jesus lived a sinless life even though He was tempted in every way that we are. How did He resist temptation? reveals the secret to Jesus’ sinless perfection. He overcame “through the Spirit.”
#5 DELIVERANCE
says, “I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord, according to Thy Word.” The only way to be free from demonic oppression and bondage is through the power of the Holy Spirit. Today the church has turned to professional counseling, medication and self- help programs. declares that it is “the ANOINTING (the power of the Holy Spirit) that destroys the yokes of bondage.”
#6 FAITH
In He is called the “Spirit of faith”. Faith cannot be produced by mentally agreeing with the Word of God. True faith is a result of the Holy Spirit bringing the revelation of the Word of God to our hearts. tells us that it is “with the HEART man believes.” Faith is of the heart, not of the mind. Much of what we call “faith” in the Body of Christ today is actually the flesh attempting to believe God. It is not true faith.
#7 PHYSICAL BODY
declares, “But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit…” The final area that the Holy Spirit quickens us in is our physical body. I believe that this Scripture has three applications. The first, the Holy Spirit will give each believer a “glorified body” at the rapture of the Church (). Secondly, the Holy Spirit’s presence brings refreshing and renewed strength to our physical body as we wait in His presence (). Lastly, it is the power of the Holy Spirit that brings physical healing to our bodies ().
How does it do it.
The HOLY SPIRIT is the one who GIVES LIFE (quickens) - look up and compare and 2 Peter 3:18.2.

The quickening spirit of christ.
KJV 1900But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
The WORD OF GOD is the INSTRUMENT the Holy Spirit uses to accomplish this work - we learn this from many references in the Scriptures and and illustrate this.
What does it mean to Quickening : To Give Life
(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
KJV 1900And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Life -Giving Spirit . The quickening spirit” is primarily a phrase found in the King James translation of the Bible and translations based on it. . Most translations translatIons translate it as “life-giving spirit”. The King James elsewhere uses the phrase “he will quicken the dead” which seems to mean to give life to the dead. The HOLY SPIRIT is the one who GIVES LIFE (quickens) - look up and compare and 2 Peter 3:18.2. The WORD OF GOD is the INSTRUMENT the Holy Spirit uses to accomplish this work - we learn this from many references in the Scriptures and and illustrate this.
1. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us with new life, so that we become partakers of the Divine nature.
1. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us with new life, so that we become partakers of the Divine nature.
tells us that we are by nature spiritually dead, and that when the miracle of the New Birth takes place we are born again by the quickening work of the Holy Spirit. We also learn from and that the Word of God is the instrument used by the Holy Spirit ”so that through them you may participate in the divine nature…”
; it is the “seed” of the new life which is dropped into our souls and which makes us ”alive to God” (). A Christian is one who is born again (,,), and who receives the new life of the Risen Lord ().
2. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us in our desires to pray and guides our praying.
2. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us in our desires to pray and guides our praying.
It is the indwelling Holy Spirit who prompts us to pray, and for an illustration of this turn to . Immediately after his conversion, and as an evidence that he really had been converted, Saul of Tarsus prayed (verse 11)! This is the first exercise of the new life – look up . As Christians we are frequently conscious of the Holy Spirit within us urging us to pray. He leads us to the place of prayer and then He shows us how to pray (). Think how the disciples needed this quickening when they were in Gethsemane - look up .
3. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us when we are in danger of getting slack, dull and careless.
3. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us when we are in danger of getting slack, dull and careless.
See what says, where the operative word is ”again”. The psalmist had fallen and he needed to be lifted up and revived. It is easy for us to get spiritually out of touch with the Lord and to become disobedient (); to deny the Lord (); to turn away from Him (); to become carnal (); to walk in the flesh (,); to allow wrong attitudes (); and to become lukewarm (). At such times we need the quickening work of the Holy Spirit to renew our love for the Lord and our determination to please Him.
4. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us when we are in bondage and sets us free.
4. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us when we are in bondage and sets us free.
How easy it is to get into bondage to sin (); to self (); and to Satan ()! In the Psalmist prayed, ”Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law.” The Lord Jesus Himself, from the Throne, is the great Liberator, as we learn from ; but He liberates us by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, as we learn from , and the medium through which He works is the Word of God.
5. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit instructs us in the way of righteousness and enables us to please God.
5. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit instructs us in the way of righteousness and enables us to please God.
Many times in the psalmist prays that God would show him the right way and enable him to walk in that way. This is exactly what the Holy Spirit does as we turn to God’s Word with the desire to hear Him speaking to us (); as we meditate upon what we read (verse 15); as we compare scripture with scripture (). This is the only way to discover the kind of life God wants us to live and to receive His enabling to live it.
6. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit draws us away from worldly living and sets our minds and affections on things above.
6. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit draws us away from worldly living and sets our minds and affections on things above.
How can we be weaned away from worldly living and become absorbed with those things which are glorifying to the Lord? will help us. How easy it is for us to live only for this world, and what a tragedy it is when this happens! See .
7. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit comforts and sustains us in times of trial and affliction.
7. It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit comforts and sustains us in times of trial and affliction.
Turn to , where the writer is saying in effect, ’If God hadn’t quickened me when I was in trouble I would have perished. But God did quicken me, and He did it through His Holy Word.’ At such times we should always turn to the Word of God.In conclusion, notice again that the Holy Spirit is the one who quickens, but we must do two things: (1) “Be filled with the Spirit” (); (2) “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
…” ().
