I. An Everlasting Meal

vv.22-25
“The Last supper or First Supper”
The Last supper was actually the first supper of the new Covenant
-Danny Akin
Exodus 6:6–7 ESV
Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
1.Rescue from egypt
2.Freedom from slavery
3.Redemption by God’s Power
4. Renewed relationship with God
“what he says are the words of a madman unless he is the son of God” - Danny Akin

II.Jesus’ Power On Display

vv.26-28
Zechariah 13:7 ESV
“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me,” declares the Lord of hosts. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones.
vv.29-31
Zechariah
Pride comes before the fall
Not only was Jesus powerful enough to perceive hearts but he knew the future.
As we said last week. This was all according to plan.

III.Jesus in Prayer

vv.32-52
Jesus leaves the disciples to pray alone. (3rd time)
1st in the dessert before his ministry started
2nd before he stated “I AM”
3rd Before his Death
Jesus is in complete Agony
Dr. Vickers: Sometimes we get so caught up in the end of the story that we miss the agony and trauma of the passion. This is gut wrenching.
Just as Jesus wept over Lazerus before raising him from the dead he wept for the moments ahead where he would be forsaken by his father.
“Not my will but yours”
If you discovered you would die a brtal death in 24 hours how would you spend your evening?
If Jesus, knowing the heart of God, can pray about this than we have no excuse not to pray to move the heart of God.
