What is our purpose as a Church?

We want to see more than 1000 members who love Christ, love the Church and love the community.
Acts 2:42–47 ESV
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts
1)Worship Stronger- They came together to praise God.
As a Church, we come together each Sunday to worship God.
Psalm 95:1–2 ESV
1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
Is it just about singing songs on Sunday service?
ps 95:
Romans 12:1 ESV
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
In the Old testament in the Bible, how did the Israelites worship God? They offered up sacrifices to God. Things that are important and valuable to them they offered to God.
But now that Jesus has paid for the price for our sins, our lives belong to God now and we are to worship God with our lives. Not just in singing songs and praising God, but more than that by doing the things that we sing in our songs. We are to live our lives for God. We are the living sacrifices now. We give up our old lives and to live new lives in God.
No. so what is it then?
So how do we worship God in our lives and in Church?
By coming for service every week.
By listening to the sermon and allowing God to speak to our lives and change our lives.
By giving time and resources to build the Church.
God calls us not only a personal relationship with him. He calls us into community—a worshipping community, which is the local church. 3 important things we do in church are:
1. Corporate Worship in our Services
2. Fellowship in Cell Groups
3. Service in various Ministries
2) Fellowship Warmer- They came together to eat together and to share with one another.
Acts 2:46 ESV
46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,
In the verse 46 above, what does it say? It says that they came together regularly. They went to the temple and they went to each other’s homes and they spent time together to each and shared their food with each other.
What does this sound like in our time. It is going to Church and going for Cell group.
Hebrews 10:24–25 ESV
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
So as a Church we need to be committed to meeting together and sharing our lives with each other. When we share our lives with each other and we pray for each other, lives will change.
Hebrews 10:25 ESV
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
In the verse 46 above,
3) Maturity Deeper- They spent time together to pray together and listen to the teachings from the word and doing life together.
3) Maturity Deeper- They spent time together to pray together and listen to the teachings from the word doing life together.
Romans 8:28–30 ESV
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Rom 2
In this verse, what does God want us to become? God wants us to become like his son. God wants us to grow in our Character. God has chosen us and we are to grow into the likeness of his son.
the word of God gives us hope and also a purpose in our lives. therefore we need to grow in not only knowing the word but also practicing what it says. So that we can mature in our walk with God.
4) Outreach Broader- They had favour with all people and God added to their numbers daily.
Matthew 24:14 ESV
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
God’s plan is for the gospel to reach the ends of the world and for the many unreached people to hear the good news and to receive salvation. God wants our friends and family to know God. And God has saved us and blessed us so that we can be a blessing to others. So it is important for us to reach out to our friends and family.
We can only reach out effectively when our lives are changed and touched by the power of God’s work in our lives.
5) Service stronger- They served each other and took care of each other.
Acts 2:45 ESV
45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.
In this verse, it says that they helped their brothers and sisters and provided for each other. They served each other and helped each other. In the same way, we need to serve in God in the Church. Service helps us to grow in our walk with God. We serve God by doing what
Mark 10:45 ESV
45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
In this verse, it says that they helped their brothers and sisters and provided for each other. They served each other and helped each other. In the same way, we need to serve in God in the Church. Service helps us to grow in our walk with God. Jesus came to serve and not to be served. So if our master was a servant, what should we be.
We should avail ourselves to the service of the Church and to our brothers and sisters. We should look out for the needs of the Church and do what we can to help.
